Dock Supervisor

Overview The Dock Supervisor oversees daily dock operations at Old Dominion Freight Line, ensuring safety, quality, efficiency, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role manages shift teams, leverages proprietary technology, and drives continuous improvement across the service center. Responsibilities Monitor safety and performance of dock employees each shift Evaluate and enforce safe loading and unloading procedures Teach safe lifting techniques and supervise forklift operations Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure equipment readiness Assign dock personnel and manage schedules, including time‑off requests Collaborate with Operations Manager/Assistant SVC Manager and Service Center Manager to meet business objectives Analyze operational metrics (ROI, MPH, stops per hour, missed shipments, errors) and provide actionable feedback Conduct daily inspections for OSHA, DOT, and company compliance Ensure trailers are correctly loaded and inspected for cleanliness Operate AS400, BLU, DYMS, and other freight monitoring systems Complete required forklift training and use equipment as needed Lead daily shift meetings and communicate schedule changes Inspect tools and equipment, and initiate corrective actions for unsafe conditions Ensure compliance with all company and government regulations Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent (some college preferred; bachelor’s degree preferred) Minimum 2 years of operational experience in transportation, supervisory experience preferred Knowledge of AS400, Microsoft Office, DYMS, and BLU systems Understanding of DOT regulations and safety regulations Strong verbal and written communication skills Working Days and Shift Working Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Working Shift: PM (subject to change at any time based on business levels.)
