Overview Position Title: Nontenure Faculty Pool - Department of History Job Posting Number: 2026009NTL Job Location: San Marcos College/Division: College of Liberal Arts Department/School: History Position Description: The Department of History seeks to develop a pool of candidates for possible temporary/nontenured faculty to teach in History. Temporary/nontenured faculty are appointed to teach one to four courses per semester. Teaching appointments are based upon student demand on a semester-by-semester basis. Eligibility for annual reappointment is contingent upon satisfactory annual performance evaluations during the term period, in addition to continuity of funding and departmental/school need. Successful candidates may teach at the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses and/or online, depending on the needs of the academic department. This posting is for the summer 2025, fall 2025, spring 2026, and summer 2026 semesters. Applicants applying for a pool faculty position will be available to the departmental search committee for consideration in case the need arises. Responsibilities: This is a pool for temporary/nontenured teaching assignments. Appointments are made based on student demand and department needs and may include teaching at multiple campuses or online, depending on the department’s needs. Qualifications Required Qualifications: An MA or its equivalent in History or a related field, with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in the relevant field of history, is required by the time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD or its equivalent in History or a related field by the time of appointment. For practice-related positions, preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate current and contemporary competence in professional practice or management, and significant years (normally more than five beyond entry level) of experience in a full-time industry, professional practice, or management capacity and potential for significant professional growth.
