Claims Specialist

Investigate OS&D (Overage, Shortage, and Damage) claims, shipment refusals, and carrier disputes. Audit Proof of Delivery (POD), bills of lading (BOL), shipping documentation, and inspection photos to verify the legitimacy of claims. Research deductions, customer disputes, and overpayments to determine whether credit is warranted or whether chargebacks/repay letters need to be issued. File and track freight claims with carriers, freight forwarders, and insurance underwriters. Negotiate settlements and recoveries according to carrier liability rules, contracts, and insurance coverage. Maintain and update claims aging reports to minimize outstanding balances. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Settlement Work closely with Warehouse Operations, Billing/Settlement, Customer Service, and Transportation teams to resolve operational discrepancies. Coordinate with Accounting and Finance teams to reconcile accounts receivable (AR)/accounts payable (AP) impacts from deductions and settlements. Track claim trends and metrics (e.g., claim frequency by carrier, product type, or region) to identify systemic operational bottlenecks. Recommend packaging, handling, or routing process enhancements to mitigate recurring cargo damage or loss. Qualifications & Skills Required Technical Skills Proficiency in logistics and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Cello Logistics Platform, WMS/TMS). Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data reconciliation). Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills for handling carrier and vendor disputes.
