Maintenance Mechanic

This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical production equipment in a dairy manufacturing facility that produces milk and yogurt. You will work with single and three-phase motors, pumps, and packaging machinery to ensure reliable, safe, and efficient operation of the plant.

Responsibilities:

• Perform single and three-phase motor replacements, including wiring, installation, and verification of proper operation.
• Diagnose, refurbish, and repair pumps used in the production process to maintain consistent product flow and quality.
• Carry out preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues on production lines, including motors, controls, and related components.
• Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs to production equipment during active production runs to quickly restore operations.
• Perform scheduled maintenance repairs during planned machine service windows to ensure equipment readiness.
• Prepare and set up machinery for scheduled production runs, ensuring correct configuration and safe operation.
• Apply mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues with packaging and production machines.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance and repairs accurately.
• Use tools such as voltmeters and other diagnostic equipment to test, verify, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
• Keep shop areas and production areas clean and orderly after repairs and maintenance activities.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to support food safety and product quality.
• Comply with OSHA safety and health rules and maintain a strong focus on safe work practices.
• Be proactive in identifying maintenance needs and collaborate with team members to address them using a team-oriented approach.
• Participate in developing and maintaining plant safety awareness and contribute to a culture of safety.
• Support company priorities by seeking ways to improve safety, product quality, waste reduction, and overall productivity.
• Maintain a professional working relationship with vendors and external service providers.
• Consistently represent the company and yourself in a professional manner and maintain a sense of urgency during operations.

Essential Skills:

• Hands-on experience replacing and wiring single and three-phase motors in an industrial environment.
• Strong electrical knowledge, including troubleshooting of motors, controls, and production equipment.
• Proficiency in preventive maintenance and general maintenance repair on industrial machinery.
• Experience with electrical troubleshooting using tools such as voltmeters and other diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems on packaging and production machines.
• Capability to read and interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, and work orders.
• Understanding and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment.
• Commitment to complying with OSHA safety and health rules and maintaining safe work habits.
• Ability to maintain cleanliness in shop and production areas after maintenance work.
• Strong sense of urgency and reliability in responding to equipment issues during production.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience diagnosing and refurbishing industrial pumps.
• Food or dairy manufacturing experience is a plus.
• Experience with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) troubleshooting is a plus.
• Experience as a maintenance technician or maintenance mechanic in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting in support of automated equipment.
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with vendors and external partners.
• Willingness to work significant overtime during busy periods.
• Interest in learning and developing new technical skills with guidance and training.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a dairy manufacturing facility producing milk and yogurt, with a fast-paced and busy production environment. You will work on and around industrial production and packaging equipment, including motors, pumps, VFDs, and PLC-controlled machinery. The plant operates with a strong focus on GMP and OSHA compliance, emphasizing cleanliness, safety, and product quality. The facility is currently very busy, so you should expect frequent overtime and a sense of urgency during operations.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of COMMERCE, CA.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
