Associate Manager

Job Description The Associate Manager contributes to Au Bon Pain’s success by ensuring our ‘Guest First’ service and café standards are met. The Associate Manager assists the General Manager with daily operating procedures, such as maintaining café operations, ensuring product quality, maximizing financial contributions, and supervising the development of the Shift Supervisors and hourly café team members. Key Position Responsibilities Provide leadership in the café by ensuring adherence to Au Bon Pain guidelines and standards and foster a teamwork-oriented, guest-first environment during the assigned shift. Assist in meeting café financial objectives by analyzing variances, controlling labor and food costs, and applying other financial controls. Maintain the integrity of cash drawers and deposits during the shift; notify the General Manager of any anomalies and ensure adherence to cash handling policies. Assist in recruiting, selecting, training, and developing qualified Shift Supervisors and hourly team members to maintain hospitality standards; perform performance counseling when necessary. Ensure proper deployment of labor across shifts to adhere to café labor budgets. Direct and coach the crew during the shift to ensure effective communication of standards. Maintain sanitation and cleanliness standards; ensure team members perform cleaning, sanitation and food safety routines; participate in audits as required. Assist with maintaining food cost management integrity; ensure the accuracy of production entries and participate in week-end inventory. Uphold the guest-first philosophy during shifts; respond to guest needs and coach the team to exceed expectations; assist in working stations during peak periods to support guest satisfaction. Perform all functions of the General Manager in his/her absence. Qualifications A BA/BS degree is strongly preferred; a combination of practical experience and/or education will be considered as an alternative. A minimum of one year experience in a restaurant concept (preferably fast casual or full service) with experience leading or directing teams as an assistant manager or shift supervisor. Must be ServSafe certified, or will become certified within the first 90 days of employment. Must have exposure to all dimensions of restaurant functions and strong computer skills.
