Physician - Physical Medicine and Rehab

Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Physicians currently employed in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy) Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine Degree obtained from a VA‑approved school for the year in which the study was completed Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a US State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia Residency training: Physicians must have completed an accredited core specialty training program approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs that leads to board certification Alternatively, one year of post‑medical‑school training (internship or transitional year) approved by ACGME or AOA followed by two years of independent practice under a full license in the United States Alternatively, non‑US residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the United States performing duties related to the position (U.S. fellowships count toward this requirement) Residents currently enrolled in an ACGME/AOA accredited residency program who would otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs); PRPs must be fully licensed physicians, can only be appointed on an intermittent basis, are not independent practitioners, and perform restricted duties under supervision PRPs can be appointed for surgery residents in gap years In rare circumstances the Facility Director can request a memo to the VISN Director to approve reasonable exceptions to the residency requirement for physicians whose record warrants it Proficiency in spoken and written English Preferred experience: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Preferred experience: PM&R (clinical, research, and teaching) Physical requirements: In accordance with VA Directive and Handbook 5019 Physical Requirements In accordance with VA Directive and Handbook 5019. Duties Provide medical/rehabilitation care to Veterans and Active‑Duty personnel through clinical evaluation and treatment within outpatient TBI and PM&R clinics Assess veteran needs, providing specialized medical assessment and interventions for injuries and disease processes requiring rehabilitation, including musculoskeletal, neurological, and functional examination Direct and coordinate the implementation of interdisciplinary rehabilitation services Contribute to discharge planning Ensure clinical appropriateness of treatment, including timely transition to other levels of care and notation of contraindications and precautions Supervise and train PM&R residents in clinical activities relevant to TBI and PM&R services, including evaluation and management of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, electrodiagnostic testing, amputation and prosthetics, polytrauma/TBI care, telerehabilitation, brace/prosthetic evaluations, and other integrative services Assist in timely processing of referrals for outpatient PM&R clinics Participate in telehealth between outpatient sites, military treatment facilities, and other referral sources Perform electromyography, nerve conduction studies, ultrasounds, and general PM&R clinic duties as needed Conduct PM&R consultations as directed by the Chief PM&R Maintain compliance with the Organization Code of Ethics for VA Provide clinical support for spinal cord injury disorders, pain services, and integrative services Advocate in program development, policy and procedure establishment, marketing, strategic planning, and other activities defined by the Chief PM&R Participate in administration, committees, and general teaching functions as delegated by the Chief PM&R Work Environment Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks requiring normal safety precautions The area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated Requires the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously in sometimes stressful situations Preferred experience: BE/BC – Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Benefits and Work Schedule Work schedule: May need to travel to other campus – Montrose Monday to Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm EDRP authorized: Eligible Pay: Competitive salary with annual performance bonus and regular salary increases Paid time off: 50–55 days of paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% VA contributions Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long‑term care (many federal insurance programs transferable to retirement) Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full‑time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No physician employment contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting #J-18808-Ljbffr U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
