Technical lead - Staff Software Quality Engineer

Job Overview We are looking for a Technical Lead – Staff Software Quality Engineer to develop a test strategy, create a test plan, automate tests, and release products to customers, focusing on vDefend Distributed Firewall and ATP solutions. Location: Palo Alto, CA, USA – this role is based in a full‑time office environment. Job Responsibilities Develop an advanced testing strategy and a comprehensive test plan addressing functional, system, scalability, performance, longevity, and churn aspects. Formulate intricate test cases for distributed scale topologies and an overall QE lifecycle, including planning, execution, automation, CI/CD integration, defect identification, reporting, and feature launch under tight deadlines. Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust Python tests using Pytest for distributed systems in private cloud environments. Advocate for software quality, coordinate with developers to resolve defects, and collaborate across test, product, SRE, and systems engineering teams to ensure complete functional, scale, system, and performance coverage. Design complex distributed architectures, influence peers to adopt them, and work with management to implement changes. Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting best practices in testing, coding, defect management, code review, and automation. Document architectures, procedures, and processes, contributing to continuous improvement of testing processes. Required Skillsets Minimum six years of experience in networking, security, or cloud‑based technologies. Minimum six years of strong Python, YAML, Bash, and object‑oriented programming experience. Minimum four years of virtualization experience (installation, configuration, administration), with a solid understanding of I/O subsystems and vSphere. Extensive knowledge of firewall and security services, as well as TCP/IP stack (L2/L3/WAN). Excellent problem‑solving, debugging, and networking troubleshooting skills. Working knowledge of REST APIs. Familiarity with traffic simulator tools such as Ixia CyPerf, TRex, and Iperf is preferred. Experience with tcpdump, Wireshark, traceroute, and netstat for debugging. Bonus: familiarity with virtualization, containerization, or cloud platforms (VMware, AWS, Azure, GCP). Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 8+ years of related experience, or• Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent with 6+ years of related experience. Compensation & Benefits Annual base salary range: $120,000 – $192,000. Eligibility for discretionary annual bonus and equity awards under relevant plans.
