EHS Specialist

Overview Job Designation: EHS Specialist Salary Class: Hourly Department: EHS Specialist Section: Safety & Facilities Responsible for identifying environmental aspects for the department and supporting Environmental Management Plan (EMP) goals and targets through training, engagement and communication. This role is crucial in fostering a safe and compliant workplace, ultimately contributing to the overall efficiency and sustainability of manufacturing operations. Responsibilities Perform environmental, health, and safety activities in the plant to evaluate and control hazards by implementing and monitoring activities to ensure compliance with company and government regulations. Maintain and implement safety programs that comply with federal, state, and local safety laws, analyze statistical data and reports to identify causes of safety‑related problems and develop recommendations for improvement. Conduct routine safety checks and inspections to ensure that all standards are met and the working environment is safe and secure. Educate employees about health and safety regulations and precautions by creating safety awareness training programs and modules. Document testing, test results, investigations, and related record‑keeping requirements. Monitor utilities, process requirements, and water samples; maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) including database input for all chemicals used at the facility. Assist in the completion of compliance reporting and in monitoring and auditing ISO 14001 Environmental Program compliance. Manage waste and recycling, including outgoing recycling materials and ensuring proper storage and labeling of non‑recyclable materials; maintain emergency spill kits in production areas. Test noise levels, measure air quality, coordinate hearing tests for employees, and coordinate forklift training to qualify operators for licensing. Oversee OSHA forklift safety inspection requirement program; train or assist in training employees on OSHA Safety and Health requirements, update safety boards and monitors for violations, issue hot‑work permits, confined‑space entries, and lock‑out/tag‑out permits. Monitor and audit safety compliance; assist with accident and incident investigations. Participate in Safety Influencer/Committee and ensure all requirements are met. Write and distribute necessary safety and environmental alerts. Work Environment Position requires work in both an office setting and a manufacturing production setting that is not temperature controlled, with outdoor work walking up and down hills through trees and shrubs. Employees must comply with all safety regulations and proper operating procedures, always utilizing required safety equipment. Employees are obligated to leave the workplace clean and orderly. Previous experience in manufacturing environments. Industrial Safety Certification (preferred but not required). Industrial Safety proficiency.
