The primary patient population includes cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery patients. Procedures may involve open-heart surgeries, thoracic lung surgeries, and various vascular procedures. Patients may also include overflow medical cardiology cases. The unit has 40 cardiac surgery stepdown beds with a total staff of approximately 100. The typical patient ratio is 1:5 for RNs and 1:13 for patient care technicians. Key skills required include epidemic management, chest tube management, and IV glucocommander management. Successful candidates will be team players who thrive in fast-paced environments and demonstrate flexibility. Candidates with previous experience in cardiovascular surgery and vascular surgery will be prioritized. This role offers no on-call requirements but does entail working a minimum of 6 weekend shifts every 6-week schedule period.
