Job Summary:

Performs specimen collection and accession receiving to support clinical laboratory operations. Responsible for collecting, processing, and accurately labeling patient samples to ensure reliable diagnostic results, primarily focusing on phlebotomy procedures. Also assists with clerical tasks and equipment maintenance to facilitate smooth laboratory workflows.

Responsibilities:

• 
  Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and finger sticks while verifying patient identity and specimen suitability.
  
  
• 
  Process and handle samples using aseptic techniques, preparing documentation for testing and reference labs.
  
  
• 
  Communicate with patients to gather information and explain procedures clearly.
  
  
• 
  Collaborate with department staff, physicians, and other essential personnel to ensure efficient lab operations.
  
  
• 
  Maintain laboratory equipment, monitor expiration dates, and manage inventory of supplies.
  
  
• 
  Perform quality control activities, participate in proficiency testing, and support departmental improvement initiatives.
  
  

Qualifications:

• 
  Possess a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent; associates/technical degree preferred.
  
  
• 
  Hold a valid Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT I or CPT II) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) license as required in CA; preferred in OR and HI.
  
  
• 
  Have at least two years of recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting.
  
  
• 
  Maintain current BLS certification and applicable state nursing license if required.
  
  
• 
  Demonstrate proficiency with EPIC or similar electronic health record systems.
