We operate the nation's first curbside recycling service, nationally recognized food and farming programs, and model education, engagement, and youth development activities.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Marketing & Communications Manager leads the execution of the Ecology Center's marketing and communications efforts through planning and coordination. In conjunction with the Leadership Team, the Business Development Director establishes the organization's overarching communications and marketing goals, priorities, strategy, and budget. Working closely with the Business Development Director and other organizational leadership, the Manager actively supports communications planning and translates these priorities into effective marketing strategies, campaigns, work plans, and deliverables. The Manager owns and project-manages the implementation of communications and marketing projects across the organization, ensuring that they are strategic, cohesive, timely, and consistent with the Ecology Center's mission and brand. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines communications planning and project management with direct execution. The Manager develops and produces newsletters, email campaigns, social media content, advertisements, flyers, web content, and other digital and print collateral. Working collaboratively with program staff, the Manager promotes programs and services, tells the story of our impact, engages supporters, strengthens fundraising efforts, and increases the organization's visibility and reach.

KEY DUTIES

Strategy & Project Management Work closely with the Business Development Director to translate organizational marketing and communications goals and priorities into actionable plans, campaigns, and deliverables. Own and maintain the organization-wide communications and editorial calendar, coordinating campaigns, events, fundraising, program communications, and other priorities. Serve as the primary project manager for communications and marketing projects, managing timelines, contributors, approvals, vendors, and deliverables. Track communications performance and use data to evaluate effectiveness and inform future strategy. Content, Brand & Digital Communications Work closely with programs to develop and implement marketing and brand awareness plans and support their ongoing communications needs, in collaboration with program leadership and the Business Development Director. Write, edit, design, and produce communications and marketing materials, including newsletters, email campaigns, social media content, advertisements, flyers, web content, graphics, and other digital and print collateral. Serve as the organization's lead resource on brand standards and messaging, maintaining a consistent voice and visual identity and training and supporting staff in the effective use of Ecology Center brand guidelines. Manage the Ecology Center's social media presence, including content planning, creation, scheduling, community engagement, and performance tracking, with executional support from program staff. Oversee website content, coordinating with program staff and web contractors to ensure messaging, information, and imagery remain accurate and current. Oversee the development and organization of photography, video, graphics, print materials, and other creative and digital assets produced by program staff and contractors. Email, Publications & Fundraising Communications Own the Ecology Center's monthly newsletter from planning through distribution, including soliciting and compiling program content, writing and editing copy, coordinating review, building the newsletter, and sending the final communication. Manage organization-wide email communications, audience segmentation, and email lists in coordination with program staff. Serve as project manager for the annual Impact Report, coordinating the production schedule, content collection, writing and editing, data, photography, design, review, printing, and distribution. Collaborate with the Business Development Director on fundraising campaigns, donor communications, appeals, events, planned giving, and other development initiatives. Develop and coordinate campaign messaging, email, social media, web content, advertising, graphics, and print collateral. Support public relations efforts by drafting and distributing press releases, media pitches, talking points, and organizational announcements; maintain media contacts and track coverage. Coordination & Organization Support Establish effective systems for managing communications requests, priorities, deadlines, reviews, and approvals across the organization. Manage communications-related vendors and contractors, including designers, photographers, videographers, printers, advertising partners, and web professionals. Collaborate with Development staff and technology partners to improve communications systems, CRM integration, and automation. Research communications trends, tools, and technologies and recommend opportunities to strengthen audience engagement and organizational visibility. May need to supervise and mentor communications interns, youth interns, work-study students, volunteers, or other communications support as assigned. Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated ability to develop communications that effectively reach and engage diverse audiences while advancing the Ecology Center's environmental and social justice goals. Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to adapt communications for different audiences, platforms, and objectives. Demonstrated experience executing integrated marketing and communications strategies. Strong project-management skills and ability to manage multiple projects, stakeholders, timelines, and deadlines simultaneously. Experience with email marketing, social media, websites, digital advertising, print communications, and other communications channels. Strong understanding of branding and ability to maintain consistency across a multi-program organization. Ability to use communications analytics and performance data to evaluate and improve marketing efforts. Strong collaborative skills and ability to translate program and organizational priorities into effective external communications. Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, prioritize competing requests, and proactively move projects forward. Strong attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and follow-through. Familiarity with website content-management systems, email marketing platforms, CRM systems, social media tools, analytics platforms, and graphic design tools. Knowledge of or demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability, food systems, zero waste, climate action, environmental justice, or related issues. Ability to contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive organizational culture.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or a related field and four years of relevant professional experience; or High School Diploma/GED and six years of relevant professional experience; or An equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating the skills necessary to successfully perform the position. Nonprofit or mission-driven communications experience preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Pay range $79,343.47 to $87,277.82 DOE, plus full medical and dental insurance, optional vision insurance, vacation, sick leave, holiday leave, employer-matched 401k plan, and Employee Assistance Program.
