Substitute Teacher JK‑12 (Ongoing) Job Type: Part-time, On-Call Reports to: Farrell Boone, Director of Academics and Curriculum Pay: $125/day, $70/half day, $150/long‑term (6 weeks or more) Coed Day School, Grades JK‑12, 725 Students 13820 Hagers Ferry Road, Huntersville, NC A Thriving Christian School in an Idyllic Setting near Charlotte SouthLake Christian Academy was founded in 1994 as a ministry of SouthLake Presbyterian (PCA) Church. The school started with just 23 students in grades K‑3, and now enrolls 725 students in junior kindergarten through 12th grade. As the school has grown, it has broadened its program to now offer a rigorous academic program, outstanding athletics, and a deep commitment to the arts. While it is significantly larger than it was at the time of its founding, SLCA retains a smaller‑school atmosphere, where all members of the community are known by name and where the distinct academic, personal, and spiritual needs of students are supported. Description Follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students. Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment. Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student. Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in the halls, on the playground and in the cafeteria. Provide in‑class and at‑home assignments based on the available lesson plan. For long‑term substitutes: develop lesson plans and assignments consistent with the regular teacher’s past lesson plans. Follow all school policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject. Assist students with transitions to restrooms, recess, and special area classes. Exercise a high degree of integrity, professionalism, and discretion. Ideal Candidate Substitute Teachers should have experience working with children in individual and group settings. Candidates must be nurturing, professional, and supportive. Minimum Requirements 21 years of age preferred (consideration will be given to qualified candidates at least 18 years of age with associate's degree in progress to meet staffing needs) Associates degree or higher in education or related field A valid and current Substitute Teacher license preferred One year of teaching experience in a JK‑12 setting preferred Competencies Strong English verbal and written communication skills Positive interpersonal skills Ability to lead and instruct students of all ages General knowledge of several subjects Ability to adapt plans to specific classrooms Flexibility and critical‑thinking skills Dependability, Self‑motivation, Patience Evidence of commitment to a local church is highly desirable.
