The Graduate Nurse applicant should have foundational interpersonal and communication skills, a desire to work with a team and culture that empowers best practice, patient-centered care and self-care and a strong desire to pursue professional growth and leadership in nursing.

This postion is eligible for $5,000 sign on bonus

The foundation of the Nurse Residency program is to provide insight and development opportunities intended to optimize a Nurse's experience for the first year. The Nurse Residency creates a positive foundation for the rest of their nursing career supporting effectiveness of transition into practice. The Graduate Nurse will have a 1:1 preceptor for the 1st twelve weeks along with monthly seminars for 12 months applying nursing science to a diverse population, developing autonomy & critical thinking strategies and involvement in discovery and implementation of evidence based practice. The program focuses on professionalism, leadership, patient centered care, patient outcomes, organizational enculturation, nursing development and self-care.

The Graduate Nurses will work together as a team to uncover best practices and research to enhance existing nursing practices within Bristol Hospital and present outcomes year end. The Graduate Nurse will participate with other nurses on shared governance committees to support the nursing structure of Bristol Hospital.

The Graduate Nurse is responsible for learning and practicing the delivery of coordinated nursing care for an assigned group of patients this includes nursing assessment, planning implementation, evaluation, and transition of care.

The Graduate Nurse is responsible for carrying out routine nursing care tasks and using professional judgment and professional behavior in caring for our patient population. The Graduate Nurse will have the responsibility to supervise tasks of unlicensed personnel and to coordinate patient care. The Graduate Nurse will be responsible for learning telemetry to care for specific patient populations.

The Graduate Nurse will learn the value of teamwork and be empowered to grow and learn in their Nurse Residency.

BSN preferred; Associates Degree enrolled in a Bachelor's program

Official hire dependent on successfully passing NCLEX

Qualifications

Educational / Minimum Requirements:

BSN preferred; Associates Degree enrolled in a Bachelor's program

State/Federal Mandated Licensure or Certification Requirements:

Current State of Connecticut licensure as a Registered Nurse. Certification from a professional nursing body preferred.

Bristol Hospital Mandated Educational Requirements:

General orientation at time of hire. Fire/Safety/Infection Control annually. Health Care Provider CPR from American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer CPR by American Red Cross or other similar programs deemed appropriate by management. Successfully complete all training programs as determined by Education & HRD department. Other unit based competencies/skills as required.

Special Requirements:

Successfully complete unit based competency package, plus unit specific items. Strong team skills.

Physical Requirements:

Physical agility with repetitive occurrence including but not limited to; walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, reaching, standing, sitting, and twisting. Lifting greater than 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the work day. Looking at a computer monitor. Vision acuity correctable to normal. Hearing acuity correctable to normal. Acute sense of smell for normal perception. Ability to verbalize so that the average person can comprehend.

Work Environment:

Regular exposure to patient elements, occasional stress.
