Job Details Location: BHI Bristol Hospital Main Campus – Bristol, CT 06010 Position Type: Full Time Education Level: 2 Year Degree Shift: 1st Shift (Days) Sign‑On Bonus: $10,000 for qualifying candidates Schedule Monday‑Friday with rotating on‑call responsibility and holidays. Responsibilities Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the operating nurse utilizes evidence‑based practices, nursing processes, and state and hospital policies to provide care. Responsibilities include: Provide pre‑operative and post‑operative nursing care in a busy ambulatory surgery center serving both inpatient and outpatient populations. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient‑centered care. Address physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and families. Podiatry Ophthalmology Breast/Plastics Qualifications Must have an active Connecticut RN license. Must have CPR/BLS certification. Minimum of an Associate's in Nursing (BSN preferred). Registered nurse with 1 year of experience in a perioperative setting as a circulating nurse. Highly motivated, energetic, organized, and able to multitask. Licensure and Certification Requirements Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut. CPR certification. Certification from a professional nursing body preferred. Mandated Educational Requirements General orientation at time of hire. Fire, safety, and infection control annually. Healthcare provider CPR from American Heart Association. Complete all training programs as determined by Learning & Development and Human Resources. Other unit‑based competencies and skills as required. Special Requirements Successfully complete unit‑based competency package and unit‑specific items. Physical Requirements Physical agility with repetitive activities (walking, running, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, reaching, standing, sitting, twisting). Lifting greater than 50 pounds repeatedly during the work day. Vision acuity correctable to normal. Hearing acuity correctable to normal. Acute sense of smell for normal perception. Verbal communication understandable by the average person. Work Environment Willing and able to work in a clinical setting. Able to respond to rapidly changing priorities. Prepared to interact with patients and be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids. Capable of working within an interdisciplinary team setting. Cognitive Requirements Excellent communication skills. Read routine and technical information with comprehension. Write clearly so the average person can comprehend. Perform simple calculations for medication doses, physical exams, and administered tests.
