Research Assistant

The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, is seeking a full‑time Research Assistant to work onsite on the UHealth campus. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Set up and operate scientific apparatus, perform minor repairs. Prepare correspondence and answer phones. Formulate and maintain bibliographies; complete applications and forms. Order laboratory supplies and maintain culture media reagents. Set up instruments and operate laboratory equipment for specific tests. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment. Review and edit materials for publication and prepare publication schedules. Maintain appropriate logs, records, and laboratory notebooks. Understand and interpret research protocols and procedures; follow SOPs. Work under direction of the PI, program director, Lab Manager, or other designee. Assemble annual and monthly reports and presentations. Communicate with PI or supervisor regarding experimental data or other work‑related issues. Adhere to University and unit‑level policies and safeguard assets. Perform other duties as assigned. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS Knowledge of tissue culture, molecular biology, and genetics laboratory test techniques. Experience with qPCR, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, molecular cloning, and amplification of DNA sequences by PCR. Experience with protein expression techniques, protein purification, plasmid analysis by restriction digest, protein gel electrophoresis, DNA gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, Southern blotting, siRNA/DNA transfections. Collaboration with other employees. Excellent organizational and computer skills. Excellent English language skills (verbal and written). CORE QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 1 year of relevant experience. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process confidential information with discretion. Willingness to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
