VDT is currently seeking Registered Nurses (RNs) to work as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) RN Abstractors supporting our ongoing mission in San Antonio, TX.Job ResponsibilitiesCollect comprehensive and accurate trauma patient data by abstracting all trajectories of care, verifying and updating information, and entering data into the Registry in a timely manner.Code injuries, procedures, and causes of injuries using standard medical record references, including ICD-9/10 and AIS, and complete ISS and other trauma score calculations for an average of 20 records per week while maintaining a 90% accuracy rate, as directed.Utilize Abstracting Business Rules as described in data abstraction resources.Serve as SME for TBI Clinical Data to JTS, MOTR, and Role 1–5 personnel.Assist the PM with training activities specific to clinical abstraction, coding, and business rules for new and existing employees.Provide quality assurance evaluations for clinical accuracy of Registry data at all Roles of Care, maintaining a 90% accuracy rate, as directed.QualificationsRequired:Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing.United States Registered Nurse (RN) license.Minimum 5 consecutive years of nursing experience, including at least 3 years as a critical care nurse in a critical care unit, trauma unit, emergency department, or inpatient operating room.Medical or Surgical ICU, Emergency Room, Operating Room, or other critical care background.Previous trauma nursing experience.Experience with medical records, coding, medical data entry, and medical system design.Working knowledge of personal computers and office automation software, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Access.Proof of immunization for TB Test; Hepatitis B vaccine, titer, or waiver; Tetanus booster within the last 5 years; and HIV titer.U.S. citizenship or the ability to obtain citizenship and ability to pass a government background investigation.Preferred:ICD-9 coding experience.Previous work as a medical abstractor.Military nursing experience.Benefits OfferedVista Defense Technologies (VDT) offers a competitive benefits package to include: paid holidays, paid time off including sick and vacation leave, medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, short and long term disability, company paid life insurance, 401(k) with a company match and discretionary profit sharing and tuition reimbursement.
