ED Physician Opportunity At VA San Diego Healthcare System

The VA San Diego Healthcare System is looking for an experienced emergency department physician. This position is located at 3350 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, CA 92161. The role involves providing immediate medical evaluation, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and/or referral of patients who present for care in the ED. It also includes providing professional advice to other VA providers concerning the management of patients in their fast-track portion of the Emergency Department.

The following list is an example of the types of cases you may encounter, but is not all-inclusive:

• Major trauma, including fractures of multiple extremities, stab wounds, open wounds of the chest and abdomen, head trauma, suspected spine injuries, lacerations, and amputations.
• Major medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, respiratory failure, and shock.
• Obstetrical emergencies such as deliveries of single or multiple births, acute pregnancy complications, and vaginal bleeding.
• Pediatric emergencies, including neonatal resuscitation.
• Acute psychiatric problems, including suicide attempts.
• Lower-acuity complaints, including viral illnesses, other infections, minor orthopedic problems, minor trauma, and alcohol abuse (i.e., "urgent care" patients).
• Other miscellaneous medical problems, both acute and chronic.

Requirements for this position include an unrestricted license to practice medicine in any other U.S. State or Territory, board certification or eligibility in emergency medicine with no less than 2 years full-time ER experience in a high-volume ED, an MD or DO capable of treating patients of all ages, a current DEA, and current certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS by way of an American Heart training program (AHA or Red Cross).
