IMCU/Step Down Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The IMCU/Step Down Registered Nurse plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) setting. Nurses in this position are responsible for monitoring patients recovering from complex medical procedures and managing care for those requiring cardiac drips, post-cath lab procedural care, and care for patients with tracheostomy and ventilation needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and assessments in the IMCU setting.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
• Monitor and document vital signs, patient symptoms, and responses to treatment.
• Assist in coordinating patient discharge and follow-up care.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols in patient care.
• Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.

Work Schedule

This position requires the flexibility to work 12-hour night shifts, specifically scheduled from 19:00 to 07:00. Weekend shifts are mandatory, with a minimum of six shifts required per schedule period. The position will also float between units as needed.

Patient Ratios

The expected nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, ensuring that each patient receives the necessary attention and care.

Qualifications

• Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Experience in IMCU, Step Down, or similar unit is preferred.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is required.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex patient care situations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Department Uniform/Dress Code

Licensed nursing personnel (RN, LVN) are required to wear solid navy blue uniforms or scrub attire. Scrub tops may have colored piping, but printed tops are not permitted. Unlicensed personnel (US, CNA, PCA, NT, MT) must wear solid hunter green uniforms or scrub attire.
