Shipping and Receiving Clerk

SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of this position is to perform all activities of the shipping and receiving department. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Is responsible for the accurate receipt and distribution of all packages, mail and other received items, and as needed, the storage of all products, packages, mail and other received items.
2. Is responsible for verifying bills of lading and ensuring that deliveries reflect actual products ordered and all items identified on shipping order are received.
3. Inspects packages and deliveries to ensure that items are not damaged and processes returns to suppliers as necessary.

1. Insures all deliveries accepted have a packing slip or alternate documentation for proof of delivery.
2. Manages stock rotations including proper storage for food and beverage and other departments to ensure older product is used first.

1. Manages inventory control functions and advises managers of low or discarded supplies.
2. Processes all out going packages and mail using appropriate suppliers such as USPS, UPS, Federal Express, DHL or other shipping providers.

1. Works with outside delivery providers to attain efficient service and cost effectiveness.

1. Utilizes the computerized system to process all receiving reports, bills of lading and shipping reports and forwards all original documents to the Finance Department.

1. Responsible for coordinating the movement of items to and from storage as requested by management.
2. Recommends updates to receiving department objectives, standards and policies and procedures for review by the Accounting Manager.

1. Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Performs position responsibilities under the oversight of the Lead Shipping and Receiving Clerk, as well as the Accounting Manager, checking with appropriate individual, frequently for directions or questions.

POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

1. Internal: Frequent contact with associates at all levels within all departments of the organization.
2. External: Continual contact with suppliers and external shipping and delivery providers.

EDUCATION: A High School education or equivalent is required.


EXPERIENCE: Previous shipping, receiving or inventory control experience is preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be detail oriented and possess the ability to process numbers accurately. Must be able to manage and maintain confidential and sensitive information with diplomacy and tact. Experience with PC's and related software is preferred.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

1. Work Conditions: The majority of position responsibilities are performed in an office environment and on the shipping and receiving dock with exposure to differentials in temperature.
2. Exposure to Hazards: May be exposed to situations where spills, wet floors or guest behaviors may create undesirable conditions.
3. Physical Requirements: Must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend or lift on a regular basis during the shift. Must be able to lift and/or move objects weighing up to eighty (80) pounds.
