About the Role

The Maintenance Supervisor plays a critical role in ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of manufacturing equipment within a plastic molding production environment. This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance team, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and ensuring all machinery operates at peak performance to minimize downtime. The role requires a deep understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues. The Maintenance Supervisor will also manage work orders, prioritize maintenance tasks, and collaborate with production and engineering teams to support manufacturing goals. Ultimately, this position ensures that all maintenance activities comply with safety standards and contribute to the overall productivity and quality of the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead the maintenance team in performing routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on manufacturing equipment, including injection molding machines.
• Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system issues.
• Manage work order systems to schedule, track, and document maintenance activities, ensuring timely completion and minimal production disruption.
• Coordinate with production and engineering departments to plan maintenance activities that align with manufacturing schedules and quality standards.
• Assembles, installs or repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
• Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
• Inspects or tests damaged machine parts, and repairs defective parts.
• Maintains equipment calibration system, equipment downtime records, and implements corrective actions.
• Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
• Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
• Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
• Train and mentor maintenance staff on best practices, safety protocols, and technical skills to enhance team performance and compliance.
• Maintains compliance with safety and housekeeping rules and procedures through supervision of employees.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Maintenance (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Hands-on experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with injection molding machinery and plastic molding processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and work order management software.
• Certifications related to maintenance management, such as Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP).
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience working in a safety-sensitive manufacturing environment with a strong focus on compliance.

The Maintenance Supervisor utilizes electrical schematics reading skills daily to accurately diagnose and repair complex electrical and control systems. Mechanical engineering knowledge supports the understanding and maintenance of machine components, while expertise in hydraulic and pneumatic systems is essential for troubleshooting fluid power equipment. Reading blueprints allows the supervisor to interpret machine layouts and system designs, facilitating effective maintenance planning. Work order management skills are critical for organizing maintenance tasks, prioritizing repairs, and ensuring efficient workflow within the team. Additionally, knowledge of injection molding and plastic molding processes enables the supervisor to address specific equipment challenges unique to the manufacturing industry, ensuring optimal machine performance and product quality.
