Director, Fund Accounting and Reporting

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Fund Accounting & Regulatory Reporting is responsible for overseeing accounting, financial reporting, fund administration oversight, and regulatory reporting for registered investment vehicles and private funds. The position serves as the primary accounting liaison among the investment adviser entities, fund administrators, auditors, tax providers, and other service providers to ensure accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective operational execution.

This role maintains oversight of fund accounting activities performed by third-party fund administrators while helping ensure compliance with applicable SEC, Investment Company Act, and Investment Advisers Act requirements. The position also coordinates annual, semi-annual, and quarterly regulatory and financial reporting obligations for the registered investment adviser entities and affiliated registered and private funds.

Essential Responsibilities

Fund Accounting and Administration Oversight

• Serve as the primary oversight contact for third-party fund administrators supporting the interval fund and private funds.
• Review monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual accounting packages prepared by fund administrators.
• Monitor the NAV process, including review of investment valuations, portfolio accounting, accruals, capital activity, and shareholder transactions.
• Review accounting for real estate debt investments, preferred equity investments, fund-level leverage facilities, and related funding activities.
• Monitor fund liquidity, capital activity, subscriptions, repurchases, distributions, and shareholder servicing arrangements.
• Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with U.S. GAAP (primarily ASC 946 Investment Company Accounting) and applicable Investment Company Act and Investment Advisers Act requirements.
• Review fund reconciliations, financial statements, supporting schedules, and accounting estimates for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate accounting treatment and implementation of new transactions, products, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage private-fund LP economics – partnership / waterfall accounting, carried interest / promote calculations, distribution waterfalls, and capital account/partner allocations.
• Manage SLA / deadline management - Identify and manage cross-functional dependencies among fund administrators, auditors, tax providers, and valuation specialists to ensure regulatory filings and investor deliverables are completed on schedule; proactively escalate risks to critical deadlines and coordinate contingency plans when inputs are delayed. (if applicable)

Financial Reporting

• Oversee preparation and review of quarterly, semi-annual, and annual financial statements.
• Review of annual and semi-annual shareholder reports.
• Review footnote disclosures, valuation disclosures, leverage disclosures, and related regulatory reporting requirements.
• Coordinate supporting schedules and information requests for external audits.
• Engage with independent auditors and assist with audit support as needed.

Regulatory and SEC Reporting

• Assist with compliance monitoring related to Investment Company Act and Investment Advisers Act requirements, including valuation, leverage, liquidity, and reporting obligations.
• Support Board and Audit Committee reporting requirements by preparing accounting and financial materials.
• Coordinate responses to regulatory examinations, due diligence requests, and investor questionnaires.

Registered Investment Adviser Reporting

• Lead preparation of annual financial information and supporting schedules required for the registered investment adviser.
• Coordinate annual Form ADV and Form PF related financial reporting requests and compliance support.
• Assist with regulatory filings, annual updates, and documentation supporting adviser operations.
• Partner with Compliance, Legal, and Finance to help ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
• Support completion of due diligence questionnaires, information requests, and regulatory reporting obligations.

Valuation and Internal Controls

• Participate in valuation committee processes and review fund valuation support.
• Coordinate with portfolio management, asset management, valuation specialists, and fund administrators regarding fair value matters.
• Assist in maintaining internal controls over financial reporting and fund accounting operations.
• Evaluate accounting processes and recommend operational improvements that enhance efficiency and scalability.

Leadership and Relationship Management

• Manage relationships with fund administrators, transfer agents, custodians, tax providers, auditors, fund counsel, and other service providers.
• Lead special projects related to new fund launches, fund conversions, system implementations, and regulatory initiatives.
• Serve as a key resource for technical accounting and fund reporting matters across the organization.

Skills, Qualifications, Additional Responsibilities

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• CPA strongly preferred.

Experience

• Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience with registered investment funds, REITs, interval funds, closed-end private funds, or other investment vehicles.
• Experience overseeing or working with third-party fund administrators.
• Experience coordinating annual audits and regulatory filings.
• Experience supporting SEC-registered investment advisers preferred.

Technical Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including ASC 946 Investment Company Accounting, the Investment Company Act of 1940, Investment Advisers Act of 1940, registered investment company financial reporting, fund valuation concepts, NAV calculations, SEC reporting requirements, internal controls over financial reporting, and fund administration operations.

Compensation Information:

Base salary range is $150,000 to $170,000. This range is estimated for this role; actual pay may be different.
