This weekend program requires a commitment of 24 hours each weekend between Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Monday at 7:00 a.m., consisting of either two 12-hour shifts or three 8-hour shifts with rotating start and end times.

Weekend Program Guidelines

• Eligible participants must work 24 hours per weekend between Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Monday at 7:00 a.m., consisting of either two 12-hour shifts or three 8-hour shifts per weekend.

• Participants may utilize up to 96 hours of combined Paid Time Off (PTO) and Ill Time Off (ITO) on weekends each fiscal year, allowing for a maximum of eight weekend shifts off. PTO requests must be approved in advance by the department manager or director.

• Holiday scheduling and work requirements will follow the department's standard expectations for non-weekend staff.

• New hires and transfers entering the program after the start of the fiscal year will receive prorated PTO/ITO eligibility.

• Weekend Program participants are expected to fulfill their 24-hour weekend commitment. Additional weekday shifts do not offset required weekend hours and will be compensated at the employee's regular weekday rate.

• Overtime resulting from additional weekday or weekend shifts must be pre-approved by department leadership.

• Participants must be willing to work rotating schedules or designated off-shifts based on departmental needs.

• Please note: Use of more than 96 total hours of PTO/ITO on weekends, more than 24 hours of unscheduled PTO/ITO, or failure to meet Weekend Program requirements may result in removal from the program.

The MRI Technologist is a valued step in the UPMC Imaging career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

Responsibilities:

• Performs all duties in accordance with system-wide competencies, behaviors, and organizational standards.

• Maintains MRI safety practices at all times, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.

• Demonstrates and maintains clinical competency across all exams and imaging equipment.

• Reviews, processes, and archives imaging studies accurately and efficiently.

• Reviews patient history and physician orders prior to exams, presenting all relevant information in accordance with established protocols.

• Accurately identifies patients using two patient identifiers and follows universal protocol for all procedures.

• Applies departmental protocols to ensure optimal image quality, including proper preparation, labeling, and administration of contrast when required.

• Documents patient history and exam details in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.

• Provides exceptional patient care by communicating clearly, addressing concerns, and creating a respectful, supportive environment.

• Collaborates effectively with team members and interdisciplinary departments to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care.

• Communicates procedure instructions clearly to patients, helping to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation.

• Ensures all exams are properly coded, tracked, and documented within the RIS system, including accurate charge entry and image archiving for interpretation.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology, or completion of an accredited CNMT, ARMRIT or ARDMS program.

• ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date.

• MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained.

• CNMT, ARDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date. MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained. CNMT, ARDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date.

• CPR or BLS Required. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

• If working in a NY facility, you must have received certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and be Licensed through the New York State Department of Health.

• If practicing under a temporary permit: must be under direct supervision of licensed radiologic technologist, must obtain ARRT certification within 180 days of permit issue date. Temporary permits expire 180 days from date of issuance, or upon notice that license application denied, or ten days after notification of failure of licensing exam, whichever occurs first.

• ARRT Certificate OR American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (ARMRIT)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

• Act 33 with renewal

• Act 34 with renewal

• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
