Registered Nurse In Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 8-6, 9-7, and possible 10-8 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: ACLS BLS Certification PALS TNCC Must-Have: Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips Experience managing patients on ventilators Description: Recovery areas include inpatient and outpatient settings. The PACU has a blend of both Phase 1 and Phase 2 certifications. BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC are required for both inpatient and outpatient settings. Only BLS is required for the anesthesia clinic. Typical PACU ratios apply for Phase 1 and Phase 2 patients. A charge nurse is assigned to each area, and they take patient assignments. There are aide positions available on each side, trained to be nursing assistants and unit receptionists. Weekend call is required once a month. Holiday call coverage is included in the rotation with permanent staff. Staff members must provide their own navy blue scrubs for the anesthesia clinic. Registered nurses must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. Ventilator management is provided by an in-house team. Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are predominantly three 12-hour shifts, but options for 8-hour or 10-hour shifts may be considered. Staff can submit schedule requests but must be flexible to meet unit needs. Registered nurses are expected to float between inpatient and outpatient areas. Common procedures recovered in the unit include general, neuro, thoracic, catheterization lab, and radiological interventions. ICU patients may be recovered in the PACU, except for open heart cases. Cancellation policy allows for two shifts per 13-week contract. All charting is done through the designated system.
