About the Position

Job Title: ICU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours from 1900 to 0730 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience with high acuity patient populations Description: Department: SICU Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS; TNCC preferred. Number of Beds: 16, plus 2 additional procedural beds. Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1 for higher acuity patients, 1:3 for medical-surgical/floor status patients. Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients: Cardiovascular surgery, trauma, NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, and any other surgical patients requiring intensive care. Experience or Must-Have Skills: Experience with high acuity patient populations is essential. Specific competencies are beneficial but not required: CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO experience. All nurses are responsible for taking care of POD 1 heart patients on a 1:1 basis, immediately post-operative patients. RNs are required to titrate drips. Common Titrated or Set Rate Drips: Epi, norepinephrine, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, and milrinone. Charge Nurse: A charge nurse is present on every shift but may occasionally take patients based on census and need. Nursing House Supervisor: Available 24/7. Respiratory Therapy: Present in ICU 24/7. Equipment: Includes vents, BiPAP, and other respiratory support. Tele/Monitor Technicians: No tele techs are on the unit; RNs monitor their own telemetry and are responsible for reading and documenting rhythm strips. Shifts & Scheduling: Shifts are either 0700-1930 or 1900-0730. Staff self-schedule but meet the staffing needs of the unit. Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend or more if willing. Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday or more if willing. Call or Standby Requirement: Only during scheduled shifts and low census. Floating Requirements: May be required to staff in different units or as a patient observer. Dress Code: Clean and professional attire is required. Orientation: One day of onboarding followed by two shifts of orientation on the unit. Completion of a skills checklist is mandatory.
