AFS Financial Counselor

Department: 39608 Aurora Family Service - Financial Wellness Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: Milwaukee, WI - 1020 N 12th St. Monday-Friday 8:30-5pm, Two evenings per month once trained and one Saturday per month, likely via online meeting tool (weeks where these additional hours are needed, your regular schedule will be adjusted to compensate) Pay Range $24.10 - $36.15 To provide financial education guidance that addresses the overall financial health of patients, team members and the community through support and help to access services that help consumers attain and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The Center for Financial Wellness counselor will assist consumers in developing action steps and goals, and offer support and advice so consumers can meet short term needs wile working toward long range goals. Each consumer has different financial priorities and obligations. Acts to provide patients with solutions tailored to their unique circumstances to work towards a state of financial and emotional wellness. Major Responsibilities: Assess clients' overall financial situation by reviewing income, assets, debts, expenses, credit reports, or other financial information. Assess financial status of clients. to understand a client’s current situation through analysis of their finances; discover their personal goals and prioritize the achievement of those objectives. Work with patient, client, and team members to develop realistic action steps and goals with educating client on money management skills and identify community resources. If appropriate, including Debt Repayment Plans. Contact consumers in accordance with the department follow up procedure and requested management. Maintains current on Department of Financial institutions (DFI) rules, Council on accreditation standards and National Foundations for Credit Counseling (NFCC). Maintains current Department of Financial Institution (DFI) rules, Counsel on Accreditation (COA) standards, National Foundation for Credit Counseling Standards as well as agency policies and procedures. Develops and maintains working knowledge and strong collaborative relationships with community agencies who can serve as potential resource providers. Meet counseling performance standards in the counseling department with upholding the time management protocol and guidelines. Reliability and responsiveness to counseling task schedule and department communication. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: License/Registration/Certification: Certified Consumer Credit Counselor certification issued by the National Foundation for Consumer Credit within 6 months, Issued by (Governing Body): National Foundation of Consumer Credit Associate's degree in Business or Social work or equivalent experience Experience: Typically requires 3+ years of experience in a financial setting KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Team player who can also work independently, excellent communication skills Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems Good communication skills; math aptitude; experience with computers and accounting software; familiar with federal and state laws regarding lending, personal finance, and banking practices Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Ability to multi-task, manage multifaceted and administrative functions in providing counseling sessions as applicable and in such areas as phone appointments, outbound call initiative, pilot program projects and assignments and third party co-op initiative Preferred: Banking experience Bilingual “This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
