ACCOUNTING ADMINISTRATOR I (SUPERVISOR)

Salary 7,172.00 - 8,910.00 per month. New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of an alternate salary range when applicable. Position Overview Under the general supervision of the Supervisor II of the Office of Administrative Services (OAS), Fiscal Services Division (FSD), this role applies knowledge of California state laws, fiscal accounting rules and regulations contained in the State Administrative Manual (SAM), the Uniform Codes Manual, governmental accounting principles, and procedures prescribed by the State Controller’s Office. The incumbent supervises accounting staff responsible for processing disbursement payments, travel claims, and the reconciliation of purchase orders and receipts reports. The incumbent establishes and maintains adequate accounting processes and internal controls, provides recommendations to management, implements solutions for complex accounting requirements, and ensures the accurate and timely completion of accounting period‑end closing activities. Flexibility and adaptability to frequent workload changes based on operational needs are required. Working Conditions The position is located in Sacramento (Downtown or Rancho Cordova) within a climate‑controlled cubicle and/or office environment with artificial lighting. Telework may be permitted on a hybrid basis in accordance with the Department Telework Policy. Applicants must be California residents. Minimum Qualifications Accountant with supervisory experience in an accounting or financial services environment. Knowledge of California accounting principles, State Administrative Manual (SAM), and Uniform Codes Manual. Proficiency in the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal) and travel claims processing. Background investigation clearance required before hire. Desirable Qualifications Excellent organizational, communication and time‑management skills. Ability to analyze data, develop effective courses of action, and prepare concise reports. Effective communication with internal and external parties at all levels. Strong knowledge of laws, policies, procedures and ability to apply them. Experience as a supervisor or lead accounting role. Travel claims processing skills / CalATERS experience. Ability to be detail‑oriented while meeting competing deadlines. Flexibility and creative problem‑solving skills.
