Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist Certified functions as a scrub person in the operating room. This role operates under the supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse, ensuring a safe O.R. environment, proper equipment functionality, and adherence to conditions that maximize patient safety during surgical procedures. Expertise in surgical techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the implementation of tools and technologies for safe patient care during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures is essential.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program
• American Heart Association BLS certification
• Preferred: 1 year of surgical technologist experience in an acute care operating room

Essential Job Functions

• Complete case carts according to preference cards and recognize their interpretation for the procurement of instruments and supplies.
• Communicate effectively with operating room and sterile processing staff to coordinate instrumentation for scheduled and non-scheduled cases.
• Review the daily schedule with the charge nurse and day coordinator of sterile processing to identify potential turnover delays and scheduling issues.
• Assume responsibility for core phone communications, delegate duties, and coordinate breaks and lunches.
• Act as a resource for the departments of Sterile Processing and Surgical Services regarding the procurement of necessary items for surgical procedures.
• Coordinate with materials management regarding supply utilization and deployment.

Schedule Requirements

This role requires regular and sustained attendance with the potential for working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. On-call work may be necessary in response to organizational, patient, or employee needs.
