Location: Rockford, IL Pay: $18-20 per hour Job Type: Full-time Schedule: 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

About the Role

At The Salvation Army Thrift Store, your work helps turn donations into funding for programs that support people in our community. We're seeking a skilled accounting professional to manage our financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance. This role is crucial in supporting our mission through accurate financial reporting, budget management, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards.

What You'll Do

Financial Management

• Perform full charge bookkeeping and maintain compliance with GAAP
• Process accounts payable and receivable transactions
• Review and post bi-weekly payroll journals
• Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns
• Maintain control procedures for Food Stamps and Petty Cash
• Process billing and reconciliation for internal and external vouchers

Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare monthly financial reports and audit schedules
• Reconcile payroll deductions and exchange accounts
• Work with HR staff on pension contribution reports
• Generate and submit Rags Sales & Vehicle Sales Reports
• Assist with budget preparations and data entry
• Collaborate with ARC Command Center for month/year-end closing

Supervisory Duties

• Supervise accounting department staff
• Review and approve vendor checks before release
• Maintain oversight of accounts and financial procedures

Qualifications

Required

Education & Experience

• Minimum: 2-year (A.S.) accounting degree plus accounting work experience
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in accounting plus work experience
• Proficient computer skills including accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
