Security Officer III (Lead Campus)

The Lead Campus Security Officer is a voluntary uniformed, armed security officer who provides on-site leadership and coordination of campus security operations. This position oversees assigned Campus Security Officers, coordinates daily staffing and coverage, ensures compliance with procedures, responds to incidents, and serves as liaison between campus administration and the district security department. The position performs all duties of an Armed Campus Security Officer while providing lead direction and accountability for team operations.

Campus Safety, Monitoring & Access Control

• Patrol and monitor school buildings, grounds, parking lots, and surrounding areas to maintain a safe and secure environment.
• Monitor entrances, exits, hallways, and common areas; control access to restricted areas and verify student and visitor authorization.
• Identify and address unauthorized access, suspicious activity, safety hazards, vandalism, and theft.
• Verify visitor identification, enforce check-in procedures, provide assistance, and escort unauthorized individuals from campus as necessary.

Incident Response & Emergency Operations

• Respond to medical incidents, disturbances, alarms, accidents, and other emergencies.
• De-escalate conflicts and restore order using approved techniques.
• Provide first aid within training guidelines and ensure proper reporting of injuries.
• Implement emergency protocols, including lockdowns, evacuations, drills, and crisis response.
• Assess threats, establish scene control, and coordinate with law enforcement and emergency responders.
• Serve as lead responder during incidents when assigned, coordinating response efforts until relieved by administration or emergency personnel.

Student Supervision & Campus Support

• Support student safety, supervision, and behavior expectations during the school day and school-sponsored activities.
• Assist administrators with student location, escorts, and behavior interventions.
• Reinforce district policies, student conduct codes, and campus expectations.

Leadership, Coordination & Training

• Coordinate daily assignments, schedules, and campus security coverage; monitor staffing needs and communicate operational concerns.
• Provide lead direction, coaching, and on-the-job training to assigned security staff.
• Support onboarding of new officers and reinforce department procedures, safety expectations, and service standards.

Documentation, Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare and review accurate, timely, and detailed reports of incidents, disciplinary actions, and safety concerns.
• Ensure completion of logs, reports, timesheets, and required documentation in compliance with district procedures and legal requirements.
• Adhere to district policies, confidentiality standards, and applicable laws.
• Maintain required certifications and follow established protocols related to safety procedures, use of force, and evidence handling.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work collaboratively with administrators, staff, and external agencies to support campus safety and operations.
• Serve as a liaison with campus administration and district leadership regarding security needs, incidents, and planning.
• Assist with threat assessments, investigations, and proactive safety planning.
• Participate in required meetings, training, and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent required.

REQUIRED: Must complete district-required first aid, CPI, and safety training.

REQUIRED: Must pass required background checks and pre-employment screenings.

REQUIRED: Must successfully complete district weapons standards and qualification program and maintain annual certification.

REQUIRED: Prior experience in security, school safety, military, or law enforcement

REQUIRED: Must maintain all annual certifications.

REQUIRED: Must pass physical, psychological, drug, and background screening requirements.

REQUIRED: Valid Colorado driver license required with acceptable motor vehicle record.

PREFERRED: Minimum two years as Armed Campus Security Officer or equivalent security/law enforcement experience.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

Work is performed in and around District school buildings and grounds, including indoor and outdoor environments. This role regularly interacts with students, staff, and visitors and supports oversight of campus security operations, including responding to safety concerns, behavioral incidents, and emergency situations. Exposure to varying environmental conditions may occur, and travel between District sites may be required.

This position is primarily active and requires frequent walking and standing throughout the workday, with occasional sitting. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently, and infrequently exert force exceeding 100 pounds in emergency or safety situations. Movements may include bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching overhead and at ground level, and maintaining balance. The role requires the ability to grasp, hold, and manipulate objects and perform fine motor tasks.
