Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and night shift availability.

Details

• Work in a 55-bed (horizontal) Emergency Department at an 885-bed Level 1 Trauma academic medical center with Chest Pain, Burn, and Stroke Center designations
• High-volume ED with an average daily census of 200–220 patients across horizontal, vertical, observation, and behavioral health holding areas
• Full ESI 1–5 patient population including trauma, stroke, STEMI, and burn cases; common presentations include GSWs, MVC, cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, CVA, overdoses, conscious sedation, vent management, and psychiatric emergencies
• Travelers will not likely be assigned to trauma bays during initial contracts
• Unit is currently undergoing renovation (2nd of 3 phases complete)
• Patient ratios vary by clinical area and acuity: RN ratios range from 3:1 to 6:1
• 12-hour night shifts, 1930–0730, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call requirements
• Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle with RTO subject to manager approval
• Epic EMR; Alaris IV pumps; Omnicell medication dispensing; Philips monitors; GE ultrasound and EKG equipment
• Floating may be required to the ED Transition Care Unit

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Level 1 Trauma Center experience required
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• First-time travelers will be considered only if they have 3+ years of Level 1 Trauma Center experience
• Department support includes ED Techs, Unit Secretary, Charge Nurse, Pod Leaders, 24/7 Critical Care Pharmacists, Paramedic Staff, RT, Hospitalist, Intensivist, SANE Quality Coordinator, and telemetry monitoring
• Orientation includes facility-level NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Required scrub color is royal blue
• Free parking is available on-site
• Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
