Or 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. Weekdays. Including call.GENERAL SUMMARYInterview patients before surgical procedures; educate patients on their surgical procedure, preparation for day of surgery/procedure and their recovery phase. Pre-operative physical assessment of the surgical patient to include, but not limited to, vital signs, head to toe assessment including auscultation of lungs, heart sounds, abdominal, circulation and peripheral I.V. starts. Review pre-op history and complete assessment in appropriate area of the medical record. Physical transportation of patient via wheelchair, cart, or by assisted ambulation to surgical holding area.GIBSON AREA HOSPITAL & HEALTH SERVICES MISSION STATEMENTTo provide personalized, professional healthcare services to the residents of the Communities we serve.PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Screen patients per phone or personal interview for any testing or education needs prior to procedure or any environmental factors that may affect patient review.2. Review all medication with patient to prevent complications or adverse reactions during surgery. Instruct patient on which medications to take or hold before surgery in collaboration with the MD, Advanced Practitioner and Anesthesia providers.3. Relay information to CRNA of any abnormal pre-op diagnosis or test results.4. Offer information to patient regarding smoking cessation, advance directives, interpreting services, cancer support information or any other further preoperative or postoperative support the patient may need.5. Review of patient history and preoperative record.6. Complete patient physical assessment.7. Complete preoperative initial assessment and document in the appropriate area of the medical record.8. Communicate with intraoperative personnel regarding patient transfer.9. Conduct verbal SBAR hand off communication with intraoperative registered nurse.10. Orient/precept new staff or students to the department.QualificationsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS1. Communication for extended periods of time with patients and family.2. Will work in an office with co-workers where traffic may be constant, subjecting your work to interruptions, which can produce stress and fatigue.3. Fast paced work environment with frequent patient turn over.4. Periods of sitting for extended amount of time during patient interview and preoperative education.5. Ability to physically transfer patients via wheelchair, stretcher to stretcher with use of slider board if needed, with or without other staff assistance.6. Ability to demonstrate a chair to chair transfer using good body mechanics.7. Physical strength to perform the following lifting tasks:• Floor to waist - 40 pounds • 14" to waist - 50 pounds • Waist to shoulder - 30 pounds • Shoulder to overhead - 10 pounds • Carry 40 pounds 30 feet • Push 40 pounds/force 30 feet • Pull 40 pounds/force 10 feet • Carry 20# away from body for 30ftREPORTING RELATIONSHIPReports to the Director and Assistant Director of Perioperative and Central Service Operations.EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:1. Current Illinois Nursing Licensure2. Knowledge of surgical procedures offered at GAHHS.3. Knowledge of anesthesia, medications and side effects.4. Excellent computer skills.5. Excellent communication skills.6. Pleasant phone etiquette.7. CPR/ACLS/PALS certification obtained within 6 months of hire, if not current.8. Excellent physical assessment skills.INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVELCategory I - Maximal Risk – this job exposes you to potential blood, body fluids, and tissues on a routine basis.
