STRUCTURAL SUPERVISOR

Position Structural Supervisor – eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, twelve (12) months per year. The role reports to the Director of Maintenance and Operations. Summary of Duties Serves as a working supervisor over assigned structural skilled trades workers and maintenance personnel; trains, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned employees; plans, estimates, schedules, and inspects work to ensure compliance with department procedures and safe working practices; and performs skilled structural maintenance duties in inspection, repair, installation, and alteration of carpentry, locksmithing, swimming pools, and general maintenance. Distinguishing Characteristics Responsible for supervising personnel performing skilled work in carpentry, painting, swimming pools, general maintenance, and locksmithing. Activities include reviewing work requests, estimating cost of labor and materials, locating and ordering parts and material, assigning work, and inspecting the work of employees in progress and upon completion. Must have general knowledge of the processes, methods, and materials used in the various trades, resolve problems in the field, and work with employees to ensure timely completion of projects. Education High school graduation or equivalency required. Courses in the structural trades are desirable. Experience Three years of full‑time journey level experience in one or more of the structural trades (e.g., carpentry, locksmith, painting) required. Lead worker or supervisory experience desirable. License / Certificate / Language Requirements A valid Class C California Driver License and a good driving record required. Completion of the Asbestos Containing Building Material (ACBM) training within the probationary period. Physical Requirements Strength to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; climb ladders and stairs; maintain balance; push, pull, stoop, kneel, crawl, and bend repeatedly; repetitively use fingers, wrists, and hands while twisting or applying pressure; simultaneously use both arms, legs, and hands; reach overhead; hear normal voice conversation; speak clearly; have depth perception and color vision; distinguish shades, see small details and long distances; use a computer and telephone. Environment Work both inside and outside in changing temperatures, poorly ventilated areas, inadequate lighting, wet or damp areas, confined spaces, at heights using ladders or scaffolding, with safety hazards, dangerous machinery, sharp objects, fumes, loud noises, vibrations, in direct contact with the public, students, and District personnel, and in the absence of direct supervision. Examination – Open / Promotional With Dual Certification Job-Related Written Examination or Training & Experience Evaluation (T&E). Structured Interview / Performance Exercise. Advanced Salary Step Placement New employees are normally placed at Step A of the appropriate salary range for this classification. Advanced salary step placement is available to employees upon their initial hire, subject to Personnel Commission approval. Appointment Qualified candidates will be placed on an eligibility list in rank order based on final scores including any veteran’s or seniority credit. The top eligible candidates will be referred for interview. Eligibility list established for six months. Employment start date depends on required clearances. Processing Fee New employees may be required to pay a processing fee for fingerprinting. Veterans Credit Veterans with thirty or more days of active service during a time of war or national emergency may receive an additional credit of five points; disabled veterans may receive ten additional points, applicable upon initial hire.
