Job Details Job No: 539762 Work Type: Full Time Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories: Veteran's Preference Eligible, Health Care Administration/Support, Medicine/Physicians Department: 35010800 - SH-NURSING STAFF Job Description The Student Health Care Center at the University of Florida seeks two Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) for its ambulatory clinic. CMAs will assist healthcare professionals with patient examination and treatment, including preparation of patients and environment, basic laboratory and electrocardiogram tests, post-treatment care, point‑of‑care testing, and overall cleanliness and infection control in the clinic setting. Clinical Support Duties Perform CMA duties under supervision of the Team RN and responsibility of a Physician. Follow universal precautions and standards for infection control. Document daily temperature logs and vital signs. Order, stock, and maintain routine supplies and special items for exam and procedure rooms. Clean and sterilize equipment and exam rooms, including desks, counters, exam tables, and surfaces. Assist in exams, including minor surgeries and pelvic exams. Provide basic patient instructions and telephone messaging. Alert Team RNs or providers of abnormal findings and perform point‑of‑care tests. Assist RNs in patient observation and care. Manage linens, autoclaving, wrapping instruments, and inventory updates. Assist with training new CMAs. Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 masks, gowns, gloves, goggles or face shields per policy. Document and disinfect exam rooms after each patient visit per policy. Medication Administration Plan, prepare, and administer medications as directed by a physician. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physician instructions to patients. Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies. Administer non‑vaccine IM and SC injections (no dose calculations). Administer oral medications with simple dose calculations. Perform TST (PPD) administration and interpret results. Provide eye drops and nebulizer treatments. Procedures Perform sterile dressings, sterile technique, phlebotomy, remove sutures or staples, and specimen collection. Assist with ear irrigations. Other Duties Restock exam rooms and keep them neat throughout the day. Perform EKGs in the radiology department during athlete physicals as needed. Assist with cleaning, wrapping, autoclaving instruments, and maintenance of autoclave rooms per OSHA. Participate in daily huddles with RN, physicians, and staff to plan team needs. Provide coverage in other SHCC areas and attend monthly staff meetings. Typical Schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (or adjusted as needed). 40 hours per week. Coverage for weekends and clinical areas as required. Salary $19.85 – $21.13 per hour Required Qualifications Successful completion of the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam offered by an accredited institute (AAMA, NCCT, AMT, NHA, or ARMA). Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with at least one year of experience. Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification. Knowledge of patient care and sterile technique. Preferred Qualifications High school diploma and one year of relevant experience. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) licensure acceptable for special circumstances. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Knowledge of phlebotomy, service functions, policies, and confidentiality procedures. Excellent communication skills in writing and verbally. Ability to take vital signs, draw blood, and perform point‑of‑care lab tests. Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
