Advisor II

Job Description The Advisor II serves as the first point of contact and primary resource for students, advising and tracking their academic progress toward degree completion. The role provides academic advice and direction on degree planning, program requirements, course selection and enrollment, and schedule building. It also educates students on campus policies, state and federal rules, and represents Lone Star College (LSC) internally and externally. Essential Job Functions Serve as the designated campus Advisor to students regarding their academic progress. Provide individualized, one‑on‑one advising on degree requirements and course selection. Guide students in the transition to four‑year institutions. Coordinate with College Relations and universities to schedule transfer events. Track and report progress for cohorts, including success, retention, and completion rates. Assist students in creating their My Educational Plan (MEP) and advise on course prerequisites, co‑requisites, and recommended sequencing. Educate students about campus resources and services. Review and approve/deny degree plans, and process registration repeals. Develop workshops, information sessions, recruitment events, and advise on employment opportunities. Collaborate with local school districts on CTE, dual credit, and pre‑college advising. Assist students in developing resumes and cover letters. Provide immigration guidance to international students and ensure compliance with immigration regulations. Participate in committees and meetings such as Graduation, Veteran's Luncheon, and New Student Orientation. Perform other reasonable duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficiency with common office software. Strong attention to accuracy and detail for tracking student success. Ability to communicate and work well with students at all levels. Ability to prioritize duties effectively. High level of customer service orientation. Physical Abilities The position is largely sedentary, requiring regular sitting with periodic walking, standing, bending, and light lifting. No special physical demands are required. Work Schedule and Conditions Utilizes a PC workstation in a Microsoft Windows environment. Interfaces with internal and external contacts as required. Works in a climate‑controlled office with minimal safety hazards. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in higher education. Experience assisting students who face unique barriers to educational success. Salary Hiring salary range is $44,793 - $51,512.
