ADA Accommodations Specialist (HR Compliance Specialist)

IU HUMAN RESOURCES (UA‑HUMM‑IUBLA) is part of Indiana University and supports the broader academic and research mission through strategic and operational functions related to recruiting, retaining, and developing a diverse workforce. Department‑Specific Responsibilities Manages and administers the employee Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) process across IU campuses for faculty and staff. Manages and administers pregnancy accommodations in conjunction with the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA). Performs intake interviews to gain a foundational understanding of individual needs. Researches, reviews, and provides guidance and suggested accommodations for ADA/PWFA cases and partners with Employee Relations as needed. Provides training and increases understanding regarding issues affecting individuals with disabilities. General Responsibilities Reviews, maintains, and updates human resources policies and procedures ensuring compliance, accuracy, and effectiveness. Provides guidance to HR Business Partners, other Centers of Excellence, enterprise system users, and HR Operations teams on HR policies and compliance issues. Collaborates with departments on compliance issues that require action and follows up to ensure concerns are resolved. Develops and manages data for reporting and analysis, including compliance audits. Communicates policy and compliance programs, processes, and changes in a timely manner across university platforms. Develops and presents various training classes focused on HR compliance. Stays up‑to‑date on the external compliance landscape to identify, recommend, and implement changes. Education Bachelor's degree, preferably in human resources or a related field. Work Experience Three years of human resources or related experience, including a solid background in employment laws and government compliance regulations. Skills Proficient communication skills. Professionalism and high ethical standards. Time‑management and priority‑setting skills. Commitment to quality and accuracy. Flexibility to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Preferred Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate with and relate to individuals with a wide variety of disabilities and backgrounds. This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of movement around an office environment and the campus, and the person must be able to perform essential functions with or without accommodation. Location and Schedule Bloomington, Indiana or Indianapolis, Indiana – eligible for a hybrid schedule that may include remote and in‑person work, subject to change based on university policy and business needs.
