Admitting Worker, Sr. (per diem)

The Senior Admitting Worker (SAW) reports to the Patient Access Services Manager and is assigned to a primary work unit with flexibility to rotate as needed. The SAW plays a key role in the patient’s health‑care experience by providing friendly, efficient, and professional service during check‑in and triage. The position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment. The SAW is expected to act as an ambassador for the Medical Center, fostering a harmonious work environment and consistently delivering high‑quality patient care and customer service. Responsibilities Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner. Verify patient identification and complete check‑in procedures. Enter demographic and financial information accurately and quickly into the computer system. Collect cash and post payments as required. Coordinate escort of patients upon arrival for services or after triage by the nurse. Use various hospital information systems to communicate effectively and respond to inquiries. Follow all Medical Center policies, procedures, and guidelines. Act as an ambassador by demonstrating willingness to learn, facilitating communication, and displaying honesty, respect, and cultural sensitivity. Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Prior experience in healthcare, insurance‑related work, or a comparable level. Strong problem‑solving and data analysis skills; ability to recommend changes. Excellent multitasking and prioritization abilities. Ability to follow instructions and work quickly and accurately in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated strong customer‑service skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and typing speed of 30 wpm or more. Analytical, grammatical, and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family. Independent work with minimal supervision. Available to work on‑site in San Francisco. Preferences Two or more years of experience in healthcare, insurance‑related work, or a comparable level. Proficiency in health insurance eligibility and authorization requirements. Experience with Epic, Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers (ADT). Ability to speak English and a second language. Experience working in a hospital, insurance payer, or physician’s office setting. Basic knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of government program regulations such as MediCal, Medicare, MIA, CCS, and other third‑party payors.
