Build the Software Platform Behind the Vehicle Hypercraft is developing a new generation of electric Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) for defense and commercial applications. Our vehicles are designed around a modern software-defined architecture that separates reusable platform technologies from vehicle-specific functionality, allowing new capabilities to be developed and deployed significantly faster than traditional vehicle programs. At the center of that architecture is Carbon, Hypercraft's Software Defined Vehicle ecosystem. Carbon combines centralized vehicle computing, embedded software, reusable hardware, engineering tools, standardized interfaces, and application infrastructure into a common platform that powers every Hypercraft vehicle. As a Senior Embedded Systems Engineer, you'll help build the embedded platform that everything else depends on. About The Role We're looking for an experienced embedded software engineer with strong C development experience who enjoys building platforms rather than applications. You'll develop RTOS software, hardware abstraction layers, board support packages, device drivers, and platform services that form the foundation of Hypercraft's software-defined vehicles. You'll work across embedded Linux, networking, and distributed systems while collaborating closely with hardware, controls, and electrical engineers to build reliable, maintainable embedded platforms for next-generation vehicles. What You'll Build RTOS infrastructure and safety-critical software Embedded Linux platform services Hardware abstraction layers (HALs), BSPs, and device drivers Vehicle networking (Ethernet, CAN, and IPC) Diagnostics, secure boot, and software update systems Core software infrastructure used across every Hypercraft vehicle Responsibilities Design and develop real-time embedded software for vehicle control and platform infrastructure. Develop RTOS applications, platform services, HALs, BSPs, and device drivers. Build and maintain embedded networking, middleware, diagnostics, and secure software update capabilities. Bring up new hardware, integrate peripherals, and debug complex embedded systems. Optimize deterministic performance, reliability, and resource utilization across embedded platforms. Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software engineers to enable new vehicle capabilities and support prototype development, testing, and field deployments. Experience in Several of These Areas Real-time operating systems (RTOS) Embedded C/C++ BSP, HAL, and device driver development ARM-based embedded processors (e.g., NXP) Ethernet, CAN, and IPC Embedded Linux Bootloaders and secure bootMiddleware and communication frameworks Embedded debugging (JTAG, GDB, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) Safety-critical or high-reliability software What We're Looking For Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline 8+ years developing embedded software Strong C/C++ Strong Linux experience Experience with RTOS development Experience developing safety-critical software Experience bringing up embedded hardware Experience in Several of These Areas (Extended) RTOS Embedded Linux Yocto Docker C/C++ Rust Python CAN / J1939 Automotive Ethernet (100/1000BASE-T1) ARM NXP S32 Automotive Platform BSP development Device drivers Secure Boot OTA updates Distributed systems ISO 26262 / functional safety Cybersecurity No candidate is expected to have experience in every area.
