NYC - 1211 Ave of the Americas Full time Community Producer, Direct Audience The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Community Producer to join our Direct Audience team, a group dedicated to building direct relationships with our readers. In this role, you will help shape and execute our community experiences, both on-platform and off. You will program interactive Live Q&A, foster reporter engagement in our comments section, and strategize new ways to connect our audience with our newsroom. The ideal candidate is an audience advocate who can seamlessly bridge the gap between our newsroom and our readers, cultivating a vibrant, conversational space that provides value far beyond just reading an article. This role is based in New York and reports to the Director of Direct Audience. You will: Strategize and develop new community-building efforts that deepen reader loyalty and create active spaces for our audience to connect with our journalism and each other. Help shift users from a "read-and-exit" behavior to a "read-and-discuss" habit by fostering robust conversations onsite, in off-platform channels, and directly in the inbox through our newsletters. Program, host, and moderate Live Q&A sessions, collaborating directly with reporters across the newsroom to highlight their expertise and answer reader questions. Lead proactive audience outreach initiatives and curate User-Generated Content (UGC) to ensure our readers' voices and experiences are reflected in our journalism. Empower and train WSJ journalists to actively participate in the comments section, turning the reader experience into a relatable, conversational community. Brainstorm, test, and launch new initiatives- such as small-scale, in-person events- designed to bring subscribers and journalists together and build real-world connections. Monitor audience sentiment and engagement metrics in community spaces, leveraging new tools to make large volumes of reader feedback more accessible and actionable. You have: 4+ years of experience in audience engagement, community management, or digital journalism. A proven track record of programming interactive digital events, such as Live Q&As or audience-driven discussions. Strong editorial judgment and the ability to confidently moderate reader comments, ensuring a high-quality, civil discourse. A passion for humanizing the news and helping reporters translate their deep expertise into direct, conversational interactions with readers. Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a talent for collaborating across coverage desks to execute community projects. A self-starter mentality and an eagerness to experiment with new ways to reward subscriber loyalty and build reader habits.
