SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Evening Facilities Support Specialist is responsible for the general cleanliness and upkeep of Summit Academy OIC’s building and grounds, and assists with routine maintenance and minor equipment and facility repairs. Working primarily during evening and weekend hours, this position ensures that classrooms, restrooms, common areas, and grounds are clean, safe, and ready for daily use. By maintaining a welcoming and well-cared-for campus, the Evening Facilities Support Specialist directly supports Summit Academy OIC’s mission of empowering individuals through education and career advancement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Building Cleaning and Sanitation

• Dry sweeps, wet and dry mops floors; vacuums, spot-cleans, and shampoos carpets; and strips, waxes, and buffs floors.
• Operates power cleaning equipment, mechanical cleaners, and polishers, and mixes cleaning agents as directed and in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Cleans restrooms and replenishes restroom supplies throughout the building.
• Empties and cleans waste and recycling receptacles.
• Dusts, waxes, washes, and polishes furniture, counters, woodwork, and metal; cleans and washes windows, walls, windowsills, and screens.

Facility Setup and Building Security

• Moves and arranges furniture and equipment as required, including setting up chairs and tables for classes, meetings, and staff events.
• Turns out lights and secures and locks doors upon completion of job duties and as otherwise required or directed.

Maintenance and Repairs

• Performs basic maintenance repairs as directed, such as painting, furniture assembly and repair, and lock removal and installation.
• Assists with minor carpentry, wiring, and plumbing tasks.
• Observes and reports to supervisor any need for repairs beyond the scope of this position, including electrical, air-conditioning, and lighting system issues.

Grounds and Seasonal Maintenance

• Sweeps sidewalks and performs grounds maintenance duties such as cutting grass, trimming hedges, and watering lawns and plants.
• Assists with the snow removal program and salts ice on sidewalks and grounds during winter months.

Supplies, Communication, and Team Support

• Maintains inventory of custodial supplies as directed and notifies supervisor when materials need to be reordered.
• Attends organizational, department, or individual meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Dependability : Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality to support evening and weekend facility needs.
• Collaborative Team Player : Works effectively with facilities staff and communicates respectfully with students, staff, and visitors.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

None.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather, throughout a school and office building with a high volume of daily foot traffic. The role routinely uses standard cleaning equipment and supplies, including brooms, mops, vacuums, floor buffers, power cleaning equipment, and cleaning chemicals, as well as hand tools and grounds equipment. Work is performed primarily during evening and weekend hours when the building is less occupied, and may involve exposure to cleaning agents, noise from equipment, and outdoor conditions during grounds and snow removal work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a very physically active role. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods; lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds; and bend, squat, kneel, climb, reach outward and above shoulder level, and turn or twist the upper body. The position requires the ability to operate machinery, heavy equipment, and hand tools, to work both outdoors and indoors in all types of weather, and to move and arrange furniture and equipment. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

POSITION TYPE & EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a part-time, non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is eligible for overtime pay. This position is scheduled to work 25 hours weekly. Standard hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Occasional additional weekday and weekend hours may be required to meet the expectations of the position and to support campus events. 

TRAVEL

This position does not require travel.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year working in a maintenance, janitorial, or custodial role in a school or building setting with a large amount of foot traffic.
• Valid Minnesota driver’s license and a clean driving record.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Two years of experience working in a janitorial or custodial position.
