Senior Accountant – Investment & Technical Accounting

Full-Time | In-Office | Downtown Houston
Up to $119,000 + Bonus + Exceptional Benefits

Position Overview

A highly established and sophisticated investment organization is seeking a CPA Senior Accountant to join its accounting team in Downtown Houston.

This is not a traditional transactional Senior Accountant role. The position supports a complex, multi-entity investment environment involving consolidated financial reporting, partnership accounting, intercompany activity, and alternative investments .

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, a thorough understanding of GAAP , and the ability to independently handle complex accounting and reporting responsibilities. Candidates with public accounting experience and exposure to investment, partnership, or multi-entity accounting are highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

• Take a significant role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for multiple entities and partnerships.
• Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and supporting schedules.
• Ensure financial reporting and accounting activities are performed in accordance with GAAP .
• Assist with consolidated financial reporting and complex intercompany accounting.
• Support accounting and recordkeeping for investments, including private equity, hedge funds, real estate, and other alternative investments.
• Record and reconcile investment activity, including capital calls, contributions, distributions, transfers, and valuation changes.
• Maintain investment cost and valuation schedules and reconcile activity to fund statements, custodians, and other third-party reporting.
• Work closely with accounting leadership and investment professionals on financial reporting and investment-related information.
• Research and analyze accounting treatment for complex or unusual transactions.
• Support audits, tax advisors, and other outside professionals by preparing schedules and supporting documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting workflows, internal controls, and system efficiency.
• Participate in financial reporting, investment tracking, liquidity analysis, and other special projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• Active CPA required. (Will look at someone that is in public accounting and has passed 3 of 4 parts and actively sitting on last part)
• Approximately 5+ years of progressive accounting experience .
• Strong technical knowledge and practical application of GAAP .
• Public accounting experience is highly preferred.
• Experience with multiple entities, consolidations, partnerships, intercompany accounting, investments, or other complex financial structures is strongly preferred.
• Investment, fund, portfolio, private equity, wealth management, or family office accounting experience is a significant plus.
• Strong analytical, reconciliation, and financial reporting skills.
• Advanced Excel skills required.
• Experience with Sage Intacct, Advent APX, BlackLine, Power BI, or similar accounting and investment reporting systems is a plus.
