Principal Objectives/PurposeThe ACYR team builds pathways to success through education, skill building and employment opportunities to help youth and young adults reach self-sufficiency. The team plays a crucial role in promoting a culture of positivity, growth mindset, and hospitality by offering high-energy educational activities and services that create a welcoming environment. Every member of the team is charged to build relationships and trust with youth and young adults to maintain relationships that foster them continuing in their planned services. Our team also serves as an integral component with connecting to our community and spreading/demonstrating the mission of ACYR. Provides instruction, based on the Arizona Adult Education ELAA Standards, to prepare participants to successfully acquire the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to complete the English Language program; and to transition to career pathways and/or post-secondary education. Provides effective instruction to participants based on the Arizona Adult Education ELAA Teacher Standards. Key Result Areas/Essential FunctionsFollow ACYR Adult Education procedures for attendance, student enrollment, assessments, curriculum, and classroom instruction, and management. Are aware of ADE - AES (Arizona Department of Education - Adult Education Services) goals and targets; strive to meet or exceed these goalsParticipate in TABE and CLAS-E (Test of Adult Basic Education) training provided by ADE – AESProgress and Exit test students at appropriate intervals using TABE and/or CLAS-EReport all TABE data to Data Entry Specialist and Data and Student Service CoordinatorKeep accurate daily attendance and submit weekly to Data Entry Specialist and submit sign-in sheets monthlyAdd appropriate resources to ACYR curriculum as found and/or developed to share with staffUse of calendar, task and other accountability tools to create efficiencies, goals and performance goalsCalendar is organized and meetings are manageable to ensure ample time for meetings and other projects. Schedules meetings as soon as possible or as directed by ABE Manager and ACYR Director of Education. Provides effective instruction to participants based on the Arizona Adult Education ABE Teacher Standards in English Language Arts and/or MathematicsProviding effective classroom management and instruction. Create lessons that comply with the ADE Standards and lead to participants' academic progressConnect students to leadership opportunities (Ambassador training for AALL)Set SMART goals with students and include as an on-going part of classParticipate in Professional Learning Communities and Professional Development as directed for ABE Program or ACYRDevelopment of community partnerships engage and retention strategies to meet participants needs. Contact students who have stopped attending class and attempt to re-engageRecruit for potential participantsFollow up with students who have exited the program and report findings to ABE Manager and/or DirectorEnsure participants are connected to appropriate community supportCollaborate with other ACYR program managers to ensure ABE participants have access to work trainings and job opportunitiesSupporting the vision and direction of ACYR's Administration Team. Attend all ABE Program meetingsAttend and engages in activities and events at the direction of the Administration Team to support the ACYR vision and mission. Participate in and request professional development training Engages in appropriate ACYR social media for events directly, and/or through contact with Media RelationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor 's degreeMust have Adult Education Teaching Cert and valid Fingerprint Clearance CardKnowledge of adult student characteristics and adult basic education content areas. Ability to instruct students in the use of basic technology applications and integrate into instructionExperience teaching/working with adult learners is a Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships. Experience working with opportunity youth at a nonprofit organization, in an educational setting or classroom preferred.Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural a must, preferably SpanishKnowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations and local community resources helpful. Strong communications skills are critical, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to work independently and part of a team. Ability to commit to teamwork and establishing effective working relationships. Willingness to consistently display a positive attitude and image of the agency, as well as provide high quality, effective customer service in all facets of communication. Must consistently engage in learning and developing new skills and approaches. Understands and utilizes positive participant development practices in all levels of work.Ability to be flexible as specific tasks will change with the evolution of the program. Must be able to form strong connections with other people and have an understanding of and a compassion for the lives of low income families.  Background CheckMust have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent. The background check will consist of a reference checks, employment, education, and criminal background search.ACYR is an at-will employer and any offer of employment with ACYR is contingent upon a successful completion of said background check.  Certification/Licenses/Other RequirementsValid Arizona Level II Fingerprint Clearance Card. Valid Arizona Driver's License.
