Tampa Electric Company is seeking a motivated and analytical Property Accountant to join our Regulated Property Accounting team. We are primarily targeting candidates at the Property Accountant I or Property Accountant II level ; however, we are also interested in experienced professionals who may qualify for a Senior Property Accountant role.

This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in accounting for the company's utility assets, supporting capital project accounting, financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional business operations. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Management, Tax, Regulatory Accounting, Operations, and other business partners while gaining valuable experience in utility and property accounting.

What You'll Do

Depending on experience level, responsibilities may include:

• Analyze, reconcile, and monitor capital work orders and plant asset activity.
• Support the accounting and reporting of property, plant, and equipment (PP&E) in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Research and resolve accounting issues related to capital projects and asset transactions.
• Prepare and review asset transfers, retirements, and journal entries.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, including Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
• Assist with financial, regulatory, audit, and management reporting requests.
• Partner with Project Management, Tax, Regulatory Accounting, Business Planning, and Operations teams.
• Provide guidance and training on capital versus operating expense accounting policies and procedures.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects.
• For more experienced candidates, serve as a subject matter expert, mentor junior accountants, and lead complex property accounting activities.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

Property Accountant I

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum one year of financial or accounting experience.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. 

Property Accountant II

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
• Two or more years of accounting or financial experience.
• Demonstrated aptitude for working independently and exercising sound judgment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel. 

Senior Property Accountant

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
• Five or more years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience leading complex accounting activities, mentoring others, and driving process improvements.
• Ability to work autonomously and serve as a technical resource for the team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Utility accounting experience.
• Regulated utility property accounting experience.
• Knowledge of FERC accounting and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with SAP, PowerPlan, Work Management systems, or similar enterprise accounting systems.
• Experience accounting for property, plant, and equipment (PP&E).
