Postdoc Hiring Initiative (PHI): Open Call for Postdocs

Overview Program Start Date: January - December 2027 (flexible within this time frame). Location: South San Francisco, California, USA. Length of Assignment: up to 4 years. Opportunity Genentech’s Postdoctoral Program is recruiting up to 3 postdoctoral fellowships to work on research and technology projects. Candidates may apply to specific labs with openings or via the Postdoc Hiring Initiative (PHI) to work in a mentor’s lab that may not have a current opening. The program emphasizes rigorous scientific training, collaboration, development of new technologies, and publishing work to the broader scientific community. Fellows typically advance to careers in Genentech, industry, or academia after completing the program. Who You Are / Qualifications Recent or pending Ph.D. graduate in a relevant field of science. Preferred majors/disciplines: Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Science, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Data Science/Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Structural Biology, Pharmacology, Toxicology, or related fields. Graduate student applicants should be within 12 months of completing their Ph.D. or within 3 years of degree completion. At least one first-author research publication accepted or published in a peer‑reviewed journal. Demonstrated ability to think critically, work independently, and solve complex problems. Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills. Mentors: identify three Genentech postdoc mentors from Research Biology or Drug Discovery and describe why.
