Fiber Splicer Trainee

Future Infrastructure, a Primoris Company, is hiring fiber optic trainees in Sarasota, FL. This position is responsible for performing specialized technical duties in the repair, maintenance, and installation of customers' fiber optic networks. Duties and responsibilities Respond to emergency and non-emergency repair calls regarding all aspects of customers' OSP fiber optic network. Perform construction, splicing, and distribution changes of OSP and ISP fiber optic cables. Perform tests on OSP and ISP networks to troubleshoot problems. Make necessary repairs on the OSP and ISP facilities once a problem is identified. Assure the network is functioning properly before leaving the customer site. Assist in maintaining inventory and notify appropriate personnel when materials need to be ordered. Work night shifts due to maintenance windows. Be subject to call-outs to meet service requirements. Weekend and holiday work may be required as service demands dictate. Perform related technical duties that are considered complex. Keep fiber optic construction and splicing skills up to date. Overall perform specialized technical duties in the repair, maintenance, construction, and splicing of customers' fiber optic networks. Qualifications Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. Experience to understand the basic principles relevant to major duties, typically achieved through an apprenticeship, internship, or a similar position for one to two years. Computer skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, Microsoft Outlook, and Google Earth. OSHA 10 certification (to be completed within 90 days of employment). Working conditions: Employees are regularly exposed to outside weather, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, drilling materials, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, vibration, and moderate to loud noise levels. Physical Requirements The physical demands include regular sitting, using hands to handle or feel, talking or hearing, reaching with hands and arms, occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and frequently lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Education High school diploma or GED.
