Job Overview

• Company: Hunter Environmental
• Salary/Pay Rate: $100,000–$140,000 per year, plus annual bonus opportunities
• Location: Norfolk, MA, with projects primarily across Greater Boston / MBTA service areas
• Job Type: Full-time
• Work Environment: Approximately 50% office / 50% field, depending on project phase
• Project Scope: Civil / heavy construction, MBTA transportation infrastructure, public-sector infrastructure, and seasonal winter storm operations
• Licenses & Certifications: No mandatory licenses required; OSHA, trench safety, working-at-heights, or related safety certifications preferred

The Opportunity

Hunter Environmental is seeking a hands-on Project Manager to lead high-impact civil infrastructure projects that keep major transportation systems operating safely and efficiently.

This is not a generic construction PM role. You will manage fast-moving, operations-critical projects for public-sector and transportation infrastructure clients, including MBTA-related work. Projects may range from short-duration assignments to intensive shutdown / diversion work where crews operate around the clock and decisions need to be made quickly.

The right candidate will bring strong civil construction judgment, field awareness, project ownership, and the ability to anticipate problems before they disrupt crews, schedules, materials, subcontractors, or budgets.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Manage civil / heavy construction projects from planning through closeout.
• Support MBTA and public infrastructure projects, including station work, stair replacements, tunnel-related work, utility coordination, site work, and other transportation infrastructure improvements.
• Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, materials, equipment, schedules, inspections, and documentation.
• Maintain visibility across both field execution and office-based project tracking.
• Visit active job sites regularly to monitor progress, identify risks, and remove blockers before they impact the project.
• Manage high-pressure shutdown / diversion projects where work may occur in shifts and problems must be solved immediately.
• Track budgets, schedules, field reports, change orders, and project documentation.
• Communicate clearly with internal teams, field leaders, subcontractors, inspectors, and public-sector stakeholders.
• Use project management systems such as HCSS or similar construction software to support job tracking and execution.
• During winter storm season, support snow operations at a management level by reviewing field reports, checking paperwork accuracy, following up on documentation issues, and helping ensure operational compliance.
• Help improve internal processes, SOPs, and project workflows while adapting to Hunter Environmental’s way of operating.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Proven professional experience managing projects in civil construction, heavy construction, public infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, excavation, site work, or related construction environments.
• Strong understanding of how active civil construction sites operate.
• Ability to work effectively between the office and the field.
• Experience coordinating crews, subcontractors, materials, inspections, schedules, and project documentation.
• Strong budget tracking, scheduling, and contract compliance skills.
• Ability to anticipate field, logistics, material, or subcontractor issues before they impact production.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, high-accountability environments.
• Strong communication skills with field teams, leadership, inspectors, and external stakeholders.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites across the Greater Boston / MBTA service area.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Experience with MBTA projects, transportation infrastructure, public works, or government-funded construction.
• Familiarity with the MBTA change order process.
• Experience using HCSS or comparable civil construction / project management software.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• 5+ years of civil / heavy construction experience, with dedicated project management experience preferred.
• Experience with prevailing wage projects.
• Experience managing short-duration, high-intensity projects or shutdown / diversion work.
• Familiarity with safety requirements related to trenching, excavation, working at heights, active job sites, and transportation infrastructure.
• Experience creating, improving, or working within SOPs and field processes.
• Equipment knowledge is helpful, but this is not intended to be an operator role.
