People of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds are invited to take part in programs that support physical wellness, social engagement, and cultural enrichment.Role Description The Assistant Swim Team Coach is a part-time, on-site role based at Sid Jacobson JCC in East Hills, NY. This role supports the head coach in planning and leading swim practices, teaching stroke technique, and helping swimmers build endurance, speed, and confidence. The Assistant Coach will supervise swimmers during practices and meets, reinforce safety protocols, and ensure that all activities follow JCC and aquatics department guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include preparing equipment, assisting with warm-ups and cool-downs, offering individual feedback to swimmers, and communicating schedule updates and expectations to participants and families. The person in this role collaborates with aquatics staff to promote a positive, inclusive, and team-oriented environment.QualificationsStrong knowledge of competitive swimming fundamentals, including stroke technique, starts, turns, and conditioning drills.Experience working with children and teens in instructional or coaching settings, with the ability to motivate and encourage diverse skill levels.Commitment to safety, including understanding of pool rules, emergency procedures, and risk awareness in aquatics environments.Clear and respectful communication skills for interacting with swimmers, families, and colleagues, including giving constructive feedback.Ability to collaborate with a head coach and aquatics staff, follow practice plans, and contribute ideas for team development.Strong organizational and time management skills to support practices, meets, attendance, and basic record-keeping.Relevant coaching or swim instruction experience; prior work in communitycenters, schools, or youth programs is helpful.Current lifeguard, first aid, and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain them within a defined timeframe.Availability to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends as required by team practice and meet schedules.
