Staff Software Engineer – Quantum Technologies | Boston, MA Are you passionate about building software at the intersection of research, science, hardware, and cutting‑edge technology? We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join a team advancing next-generation quantum computing. In this role, you’ll build scalable, reliable, researcher-friendly software that accelerates discovery. You’ll help shape software architecture, mentor engineers, and design systems that make our R&D workflows more efficient, automated, and impactful. What you’ll do: Develop and maintain R&D software for scientists, ensuring stability and high performance. Design and manage backend, frontend, and cloud infrastructure for data acquisition. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for rapid, reliable deployments. Automate calibration and bring‑up of lab equipment. Review code, guide architecture, and mentor teammates. Make software more accessible, scalable, and self‑service for research teams. What we value: Python for researcher‑facing interfaces and APIs. C++ or Rust for high‑performance, maintainable backend systems. Experience interfacing Python with Rust backends. 8+ years of software engineering experience (10+ preferred for leadership). Experience in scientific or R&D environments, ideally supporting hardware, automation, or data acquisition. Strong skills in cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), CI/CD, and database design.
