Compliance Officer

NuMark Credit Union is looking for a Compliance Officer who can take deep legal and regulatory experience — especially from federal agencies — and translate it into real-world impact for our members and our organization. What You’ll Do Review laws and regulations regularly to ensure all Credit Union operations and activity are compliant with federal and state laws and regulations. Lead the auditing process and collaborate closely with auditors, examiners, President/CEO and Management to ensure a successful audit. Recommend policy changes in the Credit Union’s compliance program that reduce risk and reflect current legislative changes. Ensure policy changes are clearly communicated to the executive team and department heads. Assist in the development and implementation of staff compliance training programs in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the Credit Union on all compliance-related matters. Review and prepare legal documents for the credit union. Work with outside counsel on referred legal matters while keeping the CEO up to date. Foster and encourage a culture of compliance within the Credit Union. Qualifications Juris Doctor’s Degree (preferred) or a current compliance officer program certification (CUCE by CUNA or CRCM from ABA) and five to ten years prior experience as a Compliance Officer or related position of Audit/Finance/Compliance/Legal/Risk functions in a bank or credit union required. If not already a licensed attorney, must pass next Illinois bar examination. Highly detail-oriented and analytical. Ability to thoroughly conduct research on and interpret new and existing laws and regulations. Advanced knowledge of federal and state laws governing credit unions is required. Knowledge of estates and trusts is required. Knowledge of contract law is preferred. Ability to provide workable recommendations and solutions to compliance problems. Goal-oriented and results-oriented. Strong communication skills are required. Ability to effectively work with outside counsel and consultants. Ability to communicate clearly with both legal and non-legal audiences. Desire to step out of government constraints and see your work drive real business outcomes. Compensation Range (exempt): $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 annually. Employees are eligible for yearly merit increases based on performance.
