The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a Long Term Care (LTC) facility provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting residents with daily living activities and supporting the healthcare team. The CNA will maintain patient dignity and comfort while performing routine care, documentation, and assisting with clinical tasks as needed.
Responsibilities:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in a Long Term Care (LTC) facility provides direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, assisting residents with daily living activities and supporting the healthcare team. This role requires experience in LTC, strong communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The CNA will maintain patient dignity and comfort while performing routine care, documentation, and assisting with clinical tasks as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with routine activities of daily living including ambulation, hygiene, feeding, and positioning.
- Perform range of motion exercises and skin care to maintain patient comfort and prevent complications.
- Collect and process patient specimens such as urine, stool, and sputum.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weights, pain assessments, and intake/output measurements.
- Communicate patient status and report changes to licensed nursing staff promptly.
- Assist with patient transport, preparation for diagnostic tests, and rehabilitation therapies.
- Perform clinical procedures such as incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, oxygen setup, suctioning, and blood sugar finger sticks under supervision.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of patient rooms and equipment.
- Assist in emergency situations and provide post mortem care as needed.
- Complete clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and patient registration support.
- Coordinate equipment and supply needs and report malfunctions.
- Current CNA license (Alaska CNA license may be pending with application submitted).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at hire.
- Minimum of 1 year LTC experience.
- Documentation of Alaska Food Worker Certification (to be obtained on-site during orientation).
- Valid CNA license from another state if Alaska license is pending.
- Verification of completion of formal CNA training program.
- Previous travel experience as a CNA.
- Experience working in Long Term Care environments.
- Alaska CNA license application must be submitted prior to applying; documentation required.
- Caregivers are not typically required to rotate between day and night shifts, but may be assigned either based on facility needs.
- On-call is not required.
- Floating within scope to meet facility needs is expected.
- Travelers must be willing to work holidays and adhere to Return to Office (RTO) restrictions limiting time off to no more than 2 weeks during a 26-week contract.
- One-time fee for Alaska Food Worker Certification applies, completed during orientation.
- No local candidates accepted; permanent address must be at least 50 miles from facility.
- Four 12-hour shifts per week (4x12 schedule).
- Shifts are variable but generally fixed as either days or nights without rotation.
- Guaranteed 72 hours per two-week pay period, with possible call-off for one 12-hour shift every two weeks.
- Assignment duration options of 13 or 26 weeks, traveler's choice.
