Early Childhood Studies, Assistant Professor Job No: 558540 Work Type: Instructional Faculty - Tenured/ Tenure-Track Location: Pomona Salary: $86,520 - $90,852 Position Overview The Department of Early Childhood Studies at Cal Poly Pomona seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to begin the academic year 2027‑2028. The successful candidate will teach courses in early childhood education (PK‑3, STEAM contexts), advise students, conduct research, and provide service to the department and broader community. Responsibilities Teach and develop courses in early childhood education, including PK‑3 and STEAM‑based curriculum. Advise students and oversee student learning. Engage in scholarly research and publish scholarly work. Provide service to the department, university, and broader professional community. Minimum Requirements Earned doctorate in Early Childhood Studies, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field by August 2026. Evidence of at least one year of classroom teaching experience in PK‑3. Demonstrated commitment to social justice, linguistically and culturally responsive early childhood practices. Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence. Ongoing scholarly research in the field. Required documentation: Cover Letter, Research Statement, Teaching Philosophy. Preferred/Desired Qualifications Experience in PK‑3 teacher preparation that integrates spatial thinking, spatial reasoning, or spatial literacy in STEM or STEAM contexts. Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration across disciplines (e.g., special education, social work, public health). Evidence of ongoing scholarship related to Early Childhood Education. Active participation in Early Childhood/Child Development professional associations and/or networks. Experience building partnerships with local schools, families, and community organizations to enhance early childhood education outcomes and advocate for equity. Experience with teaching credential/licensure teacher preparation coursework. Experience teaching in higher education. Evidence of teaching excellence.
